The immediate past governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has revealed that God instructed him not to contest any elections in 2027. Ortom made this disclosure on Tuesday in Makurdi during a courtesy visit from members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) G-14, a group of elders from the 14 Tiv-speaking local government areas in Benue.

He emphasized the importance of adhering to God’s wishes, stating, “I have no option but to respect God’s wish.” Ortom reflected on his defeat in the 2023 elections, admitting that he failed to consult God before entering the race. He explained that his supporters purchased the nomination forms for him, which he accepted without seeking divine guidance.

“God has revealed everything to me. He has asked me to wait for him,” he said, expressing confidence that the PDP is determined to reclaim the Benue Government House in 2027.

During his tenure as governor, Ortom noted that he made significant sacrifices, including prioritizing state matters over personal relationships. He vowed to continue supporting the party, emphasizing that no individual ambition should outweigh the party’s interests.

Although Ortom initially considered taking a sabbatical after leaving office, he stated that the elders opposed this idea. He clarified that, as the leader of the party in the state, he lacks the authority to dissolve the revered PDP G-14 group. “Nobody can disband this group. G-14 is the elders forum of the PDP in Benue. If anything must happen, I must know first because I am the leader,” he asserted
