SAMU OMORODION ATTRIBUTES FAILED CHELSEA MOVE TO DIVINE INTERVENTION

Porto striker Samu Omorodion, who was on the verge of joining Chelsea during the summer transfer window, believes external factors prevented his move to Stamford Bridge. The 20-year-old forward was widely anticipated to complete a £34 million transfer from Atletico Madrid, with an agreement reportedly in place. However, concerns over an ankle injury led to the deal’s collapse.

Instead, Omorodion secured a move to Portuguese giants FC Porto, where he has made a strong impact by scoring seven goals in as many games, including a brace in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Manchester United.

Reflecting on the failed transfer to Chelsea, the Spain Under-21 international shared his thoughts, attributing the outcome to divine intervention. “I had a very difficult summer. We had a really bad time because everyone knows I was close to signing, but it’s true that if it didn’t happen, it was for a reason, because God didn’t want it,” Omorodion told Spanish outlet RTVE.

He expressed gratitude to Porto for providing him with an opportunity during a challenging period. “I’m also very grateful to Porto for giving me the opportunity when things looked at their worst, and I’m very happy with where I am now. I’ve left the past behind, and now I’m focused on what’s coming to me,” he added.

Standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall, Omorodion was born to Nigerian parents and moved to Seville from Melilla at a young age. He developed his skills with Sevilla and Nervion at the youth level before joining Granada in 2021, making his debut for their reserve team in March 2022 at the age of 17.
