Rwanda’s forward Innocent Nshuti has expressed the team’s eagerness to face Nigeria in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier. After a commendable 1-1 draw against Libya, the Amavubi are keen to build on their momentum and secure a positive result against the Super Eagles.
Nshuti, who scored Rwanda’s lone goal in the draw with Libya, emphasized the need to maintain their strong performance. “We have to keep doing the same. We did a brilliant job in the big game, and everyone is happy,” Nshuti told Rwandan news outlet, New Times. He stressed that consistency is key: “We cannot keep going up and then down. We have to carry on and keep the momentum. We have many games coming, and if we want to stay positive, we need to win more against our opponents.”
With 19 appearances and five goals for Rwanda, Nshuti is a crucial player for the Wasps. Rwanda’s last appearance in the AFCON finals was in 2004, and they are eager to qualify for the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are riding high after a dominant 3-0 victory over Benin Republic. Under interim coach Augustine Eguavoen, the Super Eagles are confident heading into their match in Kigali. In their recent game, Ademola Lookman opened the scoring in extra time of the first half, followed by Victor Osimhen’s second goal and Lookman’s second goal in the 83rd minute, securing the win at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
