Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has suspended the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Otonye Briggs. In his place, Hon. Bitebobo Nelson Amieye has been appointed to manage the council’s affairs.
A source from Government House Rivers State, speaking confidentially, revealed that Governor Fubara has also instructed Briggs to transfer all council properties to the newly appointed chairman.
The state government has not officially disclosed the reasons for the suspension or the swift appointment of a replacement. However, it is speculated that the action may be related to Briggs’ alleged failure to implement empowerment programs for residents of the Akuku-Toru LGA, as directed by the governor. It is reported that while other local government area chairmen have complied with the empowerment directives, the Akuku-Toru administration has not conducted any such programs.
