The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended three individuals, including two women, suspected of being involved in a “one-chance” robbery syndicate in Port Harcourt.
Key Details:
- Arrests and Operation: The suspects were arrested on September 4 around 9:00 p.m. The police were on routine patrol when they observed a purple Volkswagen Golf with six occupants. Suspicion arose when one occupant was forcibly pushed out of the vehicle. The police intercepted the car at Eleme Junction, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
- Suspect Resistance: During the operation, one suspect attempted to evade arrest and fired at the police, resulting in a fatal injury to the suspect. The driver and another occupant managed to flee the scene.
- Gang Modus Operandi: The arrested gang members were involved in luring victims into their vehicle by leaving the front seat vacant and inviting. The gang had been operating between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. daily for the past three years.
- Recovered Items: The police recovered the Volkswagen Golf, a locally made pistol, and a live cartridge from the suspects.
- Ongoing Search: The police are actively pursuing the fleeing members of the gang.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, emphasized the ongoing efforts to track down the remaining suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.
