Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays in preparation for the October 5 local government council elections in the state. The announcement was made during a broadcast on Wednesday, stating that the holidays would allow residents to get ready for the election.

In addition to the holidays, Governor Fubara has imposed a ban on vehicular movement from midnight on Friday until 5:00 PM on Saturday. He noted that the council poll aligns with the Supreme Court’s ruling, which mandates elections to be held in local government councils across the country.

“It was on the strength of this judgment that I directed the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission to take steps towards conducting council elections,” he said.

Fubara urged the people of Rivers to conduct themselves peacefully and orderly during the election to ensure its success. He also called on security agencies to ensure strict adherence to law and order during the electoral process.
