RISING NIGERIAN FILMMAKER DOYINSOLA AJAYI MAKES ALL-INDIAN CAST FILM

Doyinsola T. Ajayi, an emerging filmmaker who began her career with the 2022 Accelerate Filmmaker Project, is making waves with her latest project. Her film, Where Tides Meet, features an all-Indian cast and will be showcased at the Mississauga Fringe Festival from August 19 to August 25, 2024.

Ajayi, who transitioned from a decade-long career in marketing to filmmaking, shared her experience navigating the language barrier during the film’s production. She emphasized that she viewed the challenge as an opportunity to test her directorial skills, focusing on her vision and working closely with a cast that delivered exceptional performances.

Ajayi’s previous works include:

  • Do or Die: A short film about Shade, who, on the verge of ending her life, encounters an unexpected guest.
  • Maki: A short film about a young married woman confronting her haunting past.
  • Angel in the Stone: An award-winning short film that follows an autistic teenage girl whose gifts transform her community. It won 10 awards at the Ebonylife Creative Academy Awards and was nominated for Best Music Score (International) at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival.

Ajayi’s innovative approach and rapid progress in the film industry reflect a promising future and serve as an inspiration for emerging filmmakers, especially women, in the industry.
