The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has announced a complete restriction on all vehicular movement, including on roads and waterways, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, during the Edo state governorship election. This measure aims to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.
Exceptions will be made for essential services, such as accredited media, electoral officials, ambulances, and emergency responders. Additionally, there will be a ban on security aides and escorts accompanying VIPs to polling stations and collation centers, while unauthorized security personnel and quasi-security outfits are prohibited from functioning during the election. The use of sirens by unauthorized vehicles is also strictly forbidden to maintain a calm environment for voters.
Special attention will be given to individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, the elderly, and those with mobility challenges to ensure all polling stations are accessible.
Citizens are urged to avoid prank calls to control rooms and instead use text messages for operational inquiries. Designated lines for reporting suspicious activities include the DIG Election at 07025000383 and the AIG Election at 09085000029, with general control room numbers being 08077773721 and 08037646272.
The IGP emphasizes the importance of adhering to these directives to prevent interference and intimidation during the election.
