The Federal Government of Nigeria has activated the National Emergency Operation Centre in response to a significant rise in cholera cases across 31 states. As of June 24, 2024, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 1,528 suspected cases and 53 deaths due to cholera, with a case fatality rate of 3.5%.
Rep. James Faleke of the Ikeja Federal Constituency emphasized the need for Nigerians to treat the cholera outbreak with the same seriousness as the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted the importance of cleanliness and cautioned against consuming fake products. Faleke urged Nigerians to be vigilant about their food and water intake to curb the spread of the disease.
For effective management of the outbreak, it is crucial for individuals to maintain high standards of hygiene and ensure they consume safe and clean water.
