Social media personality and public policy commentator Reno Omokri has criticized former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for his recent remarks on the scarcity of integrity in Nigeria. In a post on his X account on Sunday, October 20, 2024, Omokri stated that Osinbajo is the least qualified person to address the issue, alleging that he himself lacks integrity.

Osinbajo made his comments during a speech at the matriculation ceremony for students of MIVA Open University in Abuja on October 19, 2024. He lamented the dearth of integrity in society, despite its high demand. He argued that even those involved in wrongdoing seek trustworthy individuals to manage their ill-gotten gains, emphasizing that integrity is essential for long-term success in business and personal relationships.

In his response, Omokri expressed shock at Osinbajo’s comments, questioning his integrity, especially given that he contested against President Bola Tinubu for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket. Omokri accused Osinbajo of being a “backstabbing traitor” and highlighted the failures of the administration under former President Muhammadu Buhari, suggesting that anyone who served under such a government lacks the credibility to discuss integrity.

He further referenced recent criticisms of Osinbajo’s and Buhari’s tenure, particularly regarding allegations of borrowing ₦50 trillion and depleting Nigeria’s foreign reserves, leaving a significant debt burden. Omokri pointed out that even Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, praised Olusegun Obasanjo’s government as the best in Nigeria’s history, underscoring the perception of incompetence during Osinbajo’s administration.

“Look at the revelations coming out about his and Buhari’s administration. They illegally borrowed ₦50 trillion through ways and means and depleted our foreign reserves, leaving behind more debt than all past governments combined,” Omokri stated. His remarks reflect ongoing tensions and criticisms surrounding the integrity and effectiveness of Nigeria’s political leadership.
