Reactions to Edo Governorship Election: Chief Dele Momodu Speaks Out

< 1 mn read

In the aftermath of the Edo governorship election, Chief Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former presidential aspirant, expressed his lack of surprise at the election results. In a WhatsApp message, he pointed to the pervasive issues of “gangsterism” among key political actors in both the APC and PDP.

Momodu stated, “I’m flabbergasted that some Nigerians still expect APC to lose this particular election. It is practically impossible, and I’m ready to place a modest bet on it.” He criticized the environment surrounding Governor Godwin Obaseki, suggesting that he is unaware of manipulative tactics at play, referencing a “special operation codenamed Oga wants it.”

He expressed concern about the integrity of political figures, noting that many involved are motivated by self-interest. “The acolytes are desperate to deceive Oga, saying that all is well,” he remarked, highlighting the dismal performance of those in power.

Momodu described the political landscape as a “temporary marriage of convenience,” with factions in both parties aligned against each other while vying for control. He concluded by indicating that even within these factions, some members are hesitant to pursue their ambitions due to fear of their leaders.

His comments underscore the complexities and challenges facing Nigerian politics, particularly in the context of the recent elections.
