Bello Bala Shagari, Managing Director of the Royal Africa Youths Leadership Forum (RAYLF-AFRICA), has praised Vice President Kashim Shettima’s recent visit to Maiduguri following the devastating flooding. Shagari described Shettima’s visit as a reflection of the leadership Nigeria needs at all levels.

He acknowledged that while the gesture might seem modest, it underscores a level of sensitivity that is often missing among those in power. Shagari lauded Shettima for promptly returning to his hometown, where residents have been severely affected by flooding caused by the collapse of Alau Dam.

Shagari emphasized the importance of Shettima’s visit, noting, “The footage of him navigating the floodwaters in a truck, bypassing usual security protocols to reach the palace, is a notable display of leadership.” He stressed that such actions are crucial for building public confidence in the government.

Shagari also called for immediate relief efforts for the displaced residents of Maiduguri and urged for proactive measures to prevent similar disasters in the future. He concluded by highlighting that effective governance depends on maintaining public trust, which is often diminished by a disconnect between the government and its citizens.
