“Rashford, Henderson, and Reece James Left Out of England’s Euro Squad”

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, and Chelsea’s Reece James were notable omissions from Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2024 announced on Tuesday.

Among the surprise inclusions was Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, rewarded for his team’s strong performance in the Premier League season with his first-ever call-up to the national team.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones were also selected, providing Southgate with additional defensive options.

England is set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 3 and Iceland four days later in preparation for the tournament in Germany. They are considered one of the favorites to win.

Despite Rashford’s previous contributions, his underwhelming season at Manchester United, marked by only eight goals in 42 appearances and recent injury concerns, led to his exclusion from a major international tournament for the first time since the 2014 World Cup.

Similarly, Henderson’s move to Ajax in January and Jadon Sancho’s loan spell at Borussia Dortmund were not enough to secure spots in the squad. Raheem Sterling and Kalvin Phillips also missed out despite past successes under Southgate.

However, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, Manchester City’s Phil Foden, and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka made the cut, forming part of a talented group tasked with supplying service to England’s top goalscorer, Harry Kane.
