Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday to include technocrats in his plans to reshuffle his cabinet. Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Madumere emphasized the importance of effective governance, especially as Nigeria marks its 64th Independence celebration.
Regarding reports of President Tinubu’s plans to restructure his leadership team, Madumere stated, “I advise President Tinubu to go for tested technocrats, who will assist in reviving the economy and stabilizing our currency to compete favorably in the global economic market.” He expressed concern over the suffering of the masses and urged the President to reevaluate his policies to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing citizens.
As Nigeria reflects on its 64th Independence anniversary, Madumere called for a collective effort to build a more egalitarian society characterized by justice, equity, and fairness. He stressed the need to uphold the legacies of the nation’s founding fathers, such as Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and Dr. Michael Okpara, who exemplified values worthy of emulation.
He stated, “Therefore, all hands must be on deck in sustaining democracy to ensure the struggles of the nation’s founding fathers and heroes of democracy, especially those who fought for independence, will not be in vain.”
Madumere urged Nigerians to unite in building a nation that reflects their collective dreams and aspirations, emphasizing that independence symbolizes the quest for unity, sustainability, improved living standards, and genuine democratic practices for present and future generations.
In conclusion, he implored all Nigerians to remain steadfast, protect the nation’s fledgling democracy, and trust in the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He called for a rethinking and restructuring of the leadership system to foster an inclusive and equitable society where citizens actively participate in deciding their leaders, urging Nigerians to keep hope alive and work towards lifting the country to its promised land.
