President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have been very active in initiating various committees to tackle critical issues across multiple sectors in Nigeria. The establishment of these 42 committees highlights the administration’s proactive approach in addressing challenges such as education, agriculture, health, security, and the digital economy.

The significant budget allocations, totaling N21.17bn over the past seven years, show a substantial financial commitment to supporting these committees. The 2025 budget further reflects this, with an additional N3.73bn set aside for these committees.

Notably, the committees created early in the administration, like the one to address the impact of ending fuel subsidies, as well as those focused on flood mitigation and livestock reforms, demonstrate an effort to respond to pressing issues with urgency. The setting up of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms is also an important step toward fiscal restructuring.

The amount and frequency of committee formations underscore a broad strategy to effect change, though it’s important to consider how effective these committees will be in delivering tangible results in the long run, given the challenges of implementation in many government-led initiatives.

What do you think about this approach of the administration? Do you feel these committees are tackling the right areas effectively?
