President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his dedication to developing a robust digital public infrastructure to support the Renewed Hope Agenda and ensure widespread access to services for all Nigerians.
During the National Identity Day event organized by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Abuja, President Tinubu, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, stressed the critical role of digital identity in the success of government programs, including farmer incentives, student loans, and social welfare initiatives.
He commended NIMC Director-General, Engineer Abisoye Coker Odusote, for her significant contributions to advancing the digital identity agenda and ensuring the effectiveness of government programs.
Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote highlighted the essential role of digital public infrastructure (DPI) in Nigeria’s economic development, emphasizing its importance in connecting citizens to vital services. She reported that NIMC has successfully enrolled over 110 million Nigerians in the National Identity Number (NIN) program.
The event, themed “Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), Enabling Access to Services,” aimed to underscore the significance of identity for inclusion, protection, and empowerment.
