President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, following his victory in the Edo governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu praised the efforts of APC national leaders, Edo leaders, and party governors for their hard work in securing the win. He noted that the victory reflects the people’s support for the ruling party’s progressive ideals and its commitment to economic improvement and better living standards for Nigerians.
Tinubu urged Okpebholo to view his victory as a call to service rather than a reason to gloat. He encouraged the governor-elect to reach out to political rivals and work towards uniting the people of Edo for the sake of development.
The President also commended other candidates for their contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, emphasizing that peaceful political contests illustrate the nation’s stability. He advised anyone aggrieved by the election results to seek redress through legal channels.
Additionally, Tinubu lauded the citizens of Edo for their orderly conduct during the election, highlighting the country’s democratic maturity over the past 25 years. He expressed gratitude to INEC and security agencies for their efforts in conducting a successful and peaceful election, reaffirming INEC’s commitment to organizing free and fair elections in Nigeria.
