PRESIDENT TINUBU CALLS FOR PEACEFUL CONDUCT IN UPCOMING EDO GOVERNORSHIP ELECTIONS

President Bola Tinubu has urged all stakeholders in the forthcoming Edo governorship elections to engage in peaceful and sportsmanlike conduct. As the election is set for September 21, the President called on the candidates, political parties, and their supporters to respect the democratic process and the will of the people.

In a statement by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu expressed his belief in voters’ capacity to make informed choices about their future leaders. He emphasized that democracy thrives on values such as civility, tolerance, patience, and adherence to rules.

The President acknowledged the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) commitment to delivering a free and fair election and encouraged all stakeholders to contribute to a peaceful and successful electoral process.

Tinubu also commended the campaigns of the governorship candidates, noting that they had focused on addressing key issues that matter to the people of Edo, including improving livelihoods, boosting economic growth, and contributing to national development.

He called on the citizens of Edo State to remain peaceful and resolve any disagreements amicably through legal means. Additionally, Tinubu expressed his confidence in the professionalism and impartiality of security agencies and INEC officials, urging them to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
