Recently, Premier League fans have been nostalgic about what they call the “Barclays era,” which spanned from 2001 to 2016 when the British bank was the English top flight’s main sponsor. During this time, Super Eagles legend Yakubu Aiyegbeni emerged as one of the Premier League’s most formidable strikers.

A recent viral post has highlighted Yakubu’s prolific goal-scoring record by comparing it to that of Chelsea icon Didier Drogba. The post features a screenshot from the Premier League website’s player comparison tool, showcasing the goal statistics of both players.

Yakubu, who is now 41, made 252 Premier League appearances for Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton, and Blackburn. He scored 95 goals in the league, achieving a rate of 0.38 goals per match. This performance places him close to Drogba, who scored 104 goals in 254 matches, with a slightly higher rate of 0.41 goals per game.

Fans are celebrating Yakubu’s impressive record and reminiscing about his significant impact during the Barclays era of the Premier League.
