The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, announced that over 40 percent of Nigerians now benefit from 20 hours of electricity supply daily. This improvement, he stated, results from revolutionary measures implemented by the government to enhance the stability and regularity of electricity supply.
In a statement shared by his media aide, Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu noted that the Federal Government, through the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), removed electricity subsidies for approximately two million customers in Band-A in April, ensuring at least 20 hours of power daily.
Data from NERC revealed an average power generation of 4,150 megawatts for August, serving a population of over 200 million. Adelabu credited this progress to the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his renewed hope agenda aimed at revitalizing the economy.
Reflecting on his first year in office, Adelabu attributed the increase in power supply to bold measures taken by the ministry. He reported that the current power generation exceeds 5,500 megawatts and expressed optimism about further improvements by year-end, aligning with President Tinubu’s campaign promises.
He emphasized the critical role of stable electricity in any economy, stating that developed nations achieved success by prioritizing reliable, functional, and affordable power for industries, businesses, and households.010
