On Sunday, the Police Command in Imo thwarted an assault by hoodlums on the Njaba Local Government Area Divisional Police headquarters in Umuakah.
Details of the Incident
According to ASP Henry Okoye, the command’s spokesperson, the attackers arrived in three Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and launched a violent assault with sporadic gunfire. The police swiftly responded, taking defensive positions and engaging the attackers. As a result, three of the assailants were neutralized.
Fleeing Assailants and Recovered Items
The remaining attackers, who sustained various gunshot wounds, fled into nearby bushes. During the operation, police recovered significant items, including one General Purpose Machine Gun, one AK-47 rifle, and three vehicles: a Toyota Lexus 470, a Mercedes GLK, and a Toyota Venza.
Ongoing Efforts
An intense operation, led by the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Aboki Danjuma, is currently in progress to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure justice. Okoye highlighted Commissioner Danjuma’s praise for the operatives’ bravery and assured the public of the Command’s commitment to enhancing internal security in the state.
