The Imo State Police Command has successfully dismantled an armed robbery syndicate that had been terrorising residents of Owerri North Local Government Area. According to Police Spokesman Henry Okoye, the operation, which took place on October 15, 2024, was a result of enhanced security measures aimed at tackling violent crimes, particularly those occurring at night.

At approximately 3:20 am, officers from the Owerri North Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call regarding an ongoing armed robbery on Dominion Street. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers were fired upon by the armed robbers but managed to strategically return fire.

During the confrontation, one suspect was neutralised, and another, 31-year-old Moses Nanzi from Plateau, sustained gunshot injuries and was arrested. A double-barrel gun and seven live cartridges were recovered from the suspect. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining gang members who fled into the bush.

The arrested suspect will face prosecution upon the completion of the investigation.
