The Nigerian Police announced the arrest of six individuals during last Saturday’s governorship election and the recovery of BIVAS machines, which were either stolen or illegally acquired.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Frank Mba, revealed this at a press briefing in Benin. He also reported the recovery of weapons, live ammunition, 58 voter cards, and cash from one of the suspects. Mba expects more arrests as investigations continue.
He highlighted the police’s post-election strategy, which includes increased patrols, high-visibility policing, and the protection of critical state assets, especially INEC and government facilities.
Mba commended the people of Edo State for their peaceful conduct during the election and thanked the Nigerian Police, armed forces, and other law enforcement agencies for ensuring a violence-free election. He emphasized the professionalism and neutrality displayed by officers, assuring citizens of their continued safety during post-election operations.
He also extended gratitude to the media for their support in communicating with the public and providing feedback during the election process.
