Big Brother Naija star Phyna has shared her thoughts on Chidinma Adetshina’s decision to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant, suggesting that Adetshina should consider taking a break from pageantry this year. Phyna’s comments, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on August 14, 2024, have sparked debate and led to accusations of xenophobia from some social media users.
Phyna expressed her support for Adetshina but voiced concerns about the impact on other Nigerian contestants who have been preparing for the pageant. Phyna wrote, “Just thinking out loud oh. I’m in support of Chidinma O, but this one she now wants to rep us like this….What will now happen to our own typical Nigerian Queens that have been preparing for it too, Omo I for Advise her to leave pageant first or for this year… then go next tym.”
In response to accusations of xenophobia, Phyna clarified that her support for Adetshina remains intact but raised concerns about fairness for other contestants. “No I’m not [xenophobic],” she replied, “Like I said I’m in support of her. But if the slot is gonna affect someone else then No.”
The controversy follows Adetshina’s recent withdrawal from the Miss South Africa pageant due to allegations of fraud and identity theft involving her mother. Despite this setback, Adetshina was invited to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, a move that has generated mixed reactions. Some supporters argue that Adetshina’s participation is justified, while others express concerns about the fairness of the competition.
