The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Anambra Chapter has officially rejected the results of the Local Government Council elections held on Saturday in the state. Chief Chigozie Igwe, the chairman of the PDP in Anambra, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Awka on Monday.
Mrs. Genevieve Osakwe, Chairperson of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), announced on Sunday night that candidates from the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) emerged victorious in all 21 local government councils and 326 wards.
While Osakwe characterized the election as free, fair, credible, and peaceful, Igwe described the process as a charade. He noted that unlike other political parties that boycotted the election, the PDP participated and is therefore in a strong position to contest the results.
Igwe highlighted that the PDP had one month to prepare for the elections, during which they sold forms, screened nominees, conducted primaries, and campaigned, meeting all necessary conditions. However, he claimed that on election day, ANSIEC sent materials and officials to random locations, with no results reported from places like Zikdton Primary School in Nza Ozubulu, where he cast his vote.
“We reject whatever results they released,” Igwe stated. He emphasized that the PDP would advocate for the autonomy of local government areas in Anambra and ensure that local government funds are utilized effectively for community development
