200 jobs at risk as Microsoft considers closing major investment in Nigeria

Some tech experts and industry sources have said the country’s current economic challenges may have influenced this action.

According to The Guardian, the firm’s management had already reached out to staff intimating them of the sudden development. It was also revealed that the affected staff have been promised their salaries till June, 2024.

Microsoft’s ADC was first launched in Kenya and Nigeria in 2022 as the company planned to further increase their presence in the continent. The firm noted that the launching of its first Africa Development Centre (ADC) with two initial sites in Nairobi, Kenya and Lagos, Nigeria, “will serve as a premier centre of engineering for Microsoft, where world-class African talent can create solutions for local and global impact.”

However, only the Lagos-based Nigerian office is affected in this latest development.

The Lagos office housed the product engineering, ecosystem development and innovation teams. The Microsoft Garage, a new entity launched as part of the ongoing efforts to scale innovation in the tech ecosystem was also part of the set up.

The ADC upon its launch in 2022, employed over 120 engineers and increased to over 200 staff members.

According to the ADC West Africa Managing Director, Gafar Lawal,The facility will continue our efforts towards training, equipping and hiring engineering talent in Nigeria and West Africa as whole to contribute to the development of Microsoft products that are in use by over 1 billion devices and empowering millions of users and organisations across the world to do more.”

At the time, Cynthia Wasonga, a software engineer in Microsoft had noted the effect the firm’s presence in Africa would have on university students and fresh graduates.

To build our talent pipeline, we’re also partnering with local universities to create a modern intelligent edge and cloud curriculum, totally unique to Africa. Graduates will have access to the ADC to build a relevant and meaningful career in data science, AI, mixed reality, application development and many more.” she said.

Although the immediate reason for the closure remains sketchy, some tech experts and industry sources have said the country’s current economic challenges may have influenced the action.

The Guardian, however, reports that Microsoft is yet to confirm or deny the planned closure of its Lagos office as of yesterday.

In a related development, Microsoft has announced a $2.2 billion investment in Malaysia that will span the next four years to expand cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) services in the company’s latest push to promote its generative AI technology in Asia.

The investment, which is Microsoft’s largest in its 32-year history in Malaysia, will open opportunities in AI cloud for over 200,000 individuals supporting the country’s developers.

The State Commissioner for Women, Children, and Social Development, Dr Nafisa Maradun said this while declaring open a five-day workshop currently ongoing in Kaduna.

The workshop on the Child Protection Law Implementation Strategy was organised by the State Ministry of Women, children, and Social Development, in collaboration with the United Nations International Children Education Fund (UNICEF).

She said that the workshop was meant to draft the implementation strategy plan for the State Child Protection Law and inaugurate the State Implementation Committee and their terms of reference.

“It will also identify the resources and infrastructure required for proper legislation, implementation, as well as identifying key areas of child protection legislation for better comprehension and improving the inter sectoral collaboration among relevant stakeholders in the state,” she said.

The commissioner commended UNICEF for supporting the state government in developing the implementation strategy for the child protection law. Maradun called on participants at the workshop to contribute significantly by brainstorming and making use of what they learned during the conference.

In his remarks, the Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF, Sokoto Field Office, Pius Nwamanua said Zamfara should be pleased to be part of the process of developing and implementing a plan for the state child protection law.

He said that UNICEF had been at the forefront in the promotion and improving the total well-being of children in Zamfara.

He said the Implantation plan would spell out the roles of different Government Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in providing services for children in the State.

Soldiers unlawfully kill 12, seize 518 cows, 177 rams, family demands justice

The family called on the army authorities to order the detachment of soldiers deployed to Fatika to return their animals and stop selling their farmlands.

Kaduna soldiers unlawfully kill 12 people, seize 518 cows, 177 rams

In a petition made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, the family urged the army authorities to order the detachment of soldiers deployed to Fatika to return their animals and stop selling their farmlands.

They also called for a full investigation of the activities of the soldiers in the community, whom they accused of killing 12 members of the family without provocation.

The family listed those allegedly killed by the soldiers as; Nura Abdussalam, Adamu Abdulkarim, Yusuf Haruna, Buhari Haruna, Kabiru Haruna, Hussaini Haruna, Zinatu Bello, Haruna Idris, Waziri, Rayyanu Shuaibu, Alhaji Abdulkarim and Salisu Abdulkarim.

The family’s complaint was contained in a petition to the National Security Adviser dated April 12, 2024, signed by their lawyer, Bello Ibrahim.

The petition was also addressed to the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Director DSS, Governor of Kaduna State, and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1Division, Nigerian Army, under whose area of responsibility the incidents allegedly occurred.

In the petition, the family requested for the return of their animals, payment of compensation and protection from further harassment, intimidation, and violation of their human rights. They said that their ordeal began on December 3, 2022, when some suspected military personnel went to the village and killed 10 members of the family without justification.

The family added that the alleged attack was led by one Sgt Usman, locally known by the villagers as Bagobiri because of his tribal marks, who was posted to the village from Basawa barracks, Zaria.

“Sir, our clients are not in the position to know the precise official names of the soldiers involved in these acts of wickedness and disrespect for law and order.

“All they could remember was the manner Sergeant Usman organised the attacks and seizure of their cattle and other animals without justification,’’ the family lawyer stated in the petition.

Bello explained that on January 14, Sgt Usman, with the assistance of some vigilante members, seized 168 cows belonging to the family and kept them at their camp located at Fatika. He added that the animals were, however, released on January 15, after the family complained to the superior operating officer at Basawa Barrack.

Bello stated that a similar attack was launched on the family on March 9, where Sgt Usman mobilised the vigilante group and seized and transported 518 cows and 177 sheep and rams belonging to the family.

“In the presence and open eyes of our clients, Usman Bagobiri sold some of the cows to many people at their camp and later brought trailers and loaded the rest of the cows, sheep and rams and led them away to an unknown destination,’’ he alleged in the petition.

Bello said that the same Sergeant has been extremely hostile to the family members, especially Abdussalam Haruna, who forwarded the initial complaint against the soldiers to the Basawa barrack.

“Usman Bagobiri has been intimidating, and harassing our clients. He expressed openly that since their cows are no more and their lands are being taken away, our clients must vacate their village and move to any other place or if they remain on their land whatever will befall them, will so befall them,’’ he added in the petition.

The lawyer further stated in the petition that 300 of the cows were pregnant and likely to deliver at any moment, which may increase the herd to more than 850.

He added that 100 sheep were also pregnant at the time and likely to give birth and raise their number to at least 130. This, according to him, will likely raise the number of sheep and rams from 177 to about 300.

He described the present state of the family as pathetic because of the “untold hardship and sufferings on our clients.

“Being that to our clients, the animals are the main source of their livelihood.

“Our clients are law-abiding citizens and have never been involved in banditry, kidnapping or in cattle rustling, that is why their settlement exists openly and peacefully among the larger Hausa communities around Fatika.”

Bello, however, said that despite the intimidation and harassment, his client had resolved to resist being forced into criminality and would pursue legal options to recover their livestock and farmlands.

“So far, after so much struggle, 40 cows were returned by the Kaduna state livestock officer, who said the Army gave them only 45 cows and that five of the cows had allegedly died, with non of their dead bodies shown to my client by anybody.”

He added that the 40 cows were returned on April 3.

“We solicit the assistance of the authority to urgently intervene and bring back the cows, sheep and rams of our clients immediately, and to ensure that the family lands of our clients are returned to them.

“We also seek for the payment of ₦500,000,000 as damages, compensation for suffering, hardship, fear and intimidation inflicted upon our client by soldiers.

“Sir, should it be that our client’s cows, sheep and rams are extinguished and lost due to unjustified seizure of the animals by the soldiers of the Nigerian army, our clients are entitled to the payment of compensation in the sum of ₦2 billion along with the release of their farmlands.

“With the instructions of our clients, we request for the payment of ₦250, 000, 000 each as compensation for the killing of twelve (12) persons listed above, given the total of ₦3bn.”

When contacted on the matter, the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu said full investigations had commenced into the matter.

“Reference your inquiry. Information available to me is that an investigation into the allegation is currently ongoing.

“The personnel involved have been taken into custody and investigation has commenced and we should await the outcome,” he stated.

Tinubu to open Funtua Inland Port in Katsina on May 9, boosting trade

The sea port aims to showcase the NSC commitments to facilitating trade in the country.

President Tinubu to inaugurate the Funtua Inland Dry Port [The Nation Newspaper]

Rebecca Adamu, Assistant Director, Public Relations Unit, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Wednesday. She said the inauguration, to be conducted at Funtua IDP Project Site, Katsina, at 11:00 am would feature critical stakeholders and dignitaries.

Adamu described the sea port as one of the pivotal projects to showcase the NSC commitments to facilitating trade in the country.

“Establishment of inland dry port will bring shipping and port services closer to the importers and exporters at the hinterland,

“It will decongest the seaports, create job opportunities, improve and accrue huge revenue to the government, among others.

“It is also in line with the performance bond signed by the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

“It is worthy to note that, this initiative is part of NSC’ Key Performance Indicator (KPI), to deliver the Funtua Inland Dry Port Project before the end of the 1st Quarter, 2024,’’ she said.

Adamu recalled that in February 2023, former President Muhammadu Buhari, declared Funtua IDP as a port of origin and destination to pave the way for importers and exporters to officially consign their cargoes from Funtua to any part of the world.

She said the Funtua IDP was the third port to be inaugurated by the Federal Government in recent time. Adamu said that the Federal Government had also inaugurated the Dala Inland Dry Port in 2023 and the Kaduna Inland Dry Port in 2018.

Peter Obi reacts to FG’s planned imposition of cybersecurity levy on Nigerians

Obi criticised the government’s decision to introduce new taxes instead of reducing them to combat inflation.

Peter Obi. [Facebook]

He argued that the government’s decision to impose a cybersecurity levy drains the economy and hinders its revival and expansion.

The 0.5 percentage levy on bank transactions, except for a few exemptions, has faced significant backlash, with many questioning its management by the Office of the National Security Adviser as outlined in the Cybersecurity Act.

Obi criticised the government, alleging that its policies not only worsened poverty among citizens but also decreased the country’s economic competitiveness.

He questioned the role of the ONSA in revenue collection.

Obi, via X, wrote, “The introduction of yet another tax, in the form of Cybersecurity Levy, on Nigerians who are already suffering severe economic distress is further proof that the government is more interested in milking a dying economy instead of nurturing it to recovery and growth.

“This does not only amount to multiple taxation on banking transactions, which are already subject to various other taxes, including stamp duties, but it negates the government’s avowed commitment to reducing the number of taxes and streamlining the tax system.

“The imposition of a Cybersecurity Levy on bank transactions is particularly sad given that the tax is on the trading capital of businesses and not on their profit; hence, it will further erode whatever is left of their remaining capital after the impact of the Naira devaluation and high inflation rate.

“It is inconceivable to expect the suffering citizens of Nigeria to separately fund all activities of the government. Policies such as this not only impoverish the citizens but make the country’s economic environment less competitive.”

Obi criticised the government’s decision to introduce new taxes instead of reducing them to combat inflation.

He questioned why the NSA’s office is involved in revenue collection, emphasising its primary role in national security.

Additionally, he raised concerns about the provision in the new cybersecurity law that allocates returns from a specific tax to the NSA.

What to know about existential crisis and how to cope with it

Everyone experiences doubt and questions their place in the world at some point.

What to know about existential crisis [BetterUp]

Sometimes, even amid a seemingly good life, a big question mark can pop into your head: “What’s the point of it all?”

If you’ve ever felt this way, you might be experiencing what’s called an existential crisis.

An existential crisis isn’t a fancy term for a bad day. It’s a period of questioning and searching for meaning in life. It’s about wondering about the big picture – the purpose of existence, our place in the universe, and what it all means in the end. It’s normal to have these questions from time to time, especially during big life changes like graduating from school, starting a new job, or having a child.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. Sometimes, existential crises can be triggered by life events like a serious illness, a loss in the family, or a relationship breakup. They can also come on more gradually, as we simply ponder the big questions of life.

Everyone experiences them differently, but some common signs include:

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="What does an existential crisis feel like [LinkedIn]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”What does an existential crisis feel like [LinkedIn]” width=”790″ height=”365″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/uXPktkqTURBXy85ZWY4ZTgxZGIwYzUzNDIxOTIwOGU1ZmI0NzBlYjJmYi5qcGVnkZUCzQMWzQFtwsM” />

  • Feeling lost or directionless: You might feel unsure about your goals, your values, or even who you are as a person.
  • Questioning your life choices: You might start wondering if you’re on the right track with your career, relationships, or where you live.
  • Feeling overwhelmed by the vastness of existence: The universe is a pretty big place, and sometimes, contemplating its enormity can be scary.
  • Anxiety and depression: It’s normal to feel down or stressed when you’re wrestling with big questions.
  • Feeling a lack of purpose: You might struggle to find meaning in your daily life.

So, you think you might be having an existential crisis? here’s what to do:

Existential crises are a normal part of life. They’re a sign that you’re a thoughtful person who cares about the meaning of things.

Talking to a trusted friend, family member, therapist, or counsellor can be incredibly helpful.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Talk to aomeone [BefriendersWorldwide]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Talk to aomeone [BefriendersWorldwide]” width=”275″ height=”183″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/TYIktkqTURBXy83OTU5MWJjMTYwMzRhMWVmNWUwMjY0ZmExNGRhYTY5Yi5qcGVnkZUCzQETzLfCww” />

Sharing your thoughts and feelings can offer a different perspective and help you feel less alone.

What’s important to you in life? Is it spending time with loved ones? Helping others? Take some time to reflect on your core values and what truly matters to you. Living a life aligned with your values can bring a sense of purpose and direction.

Big questions don’t always have easy answers. But sometimes, focusing on the little things that bring you joy can make a big difference. Do you love spending time in nature? Helping others? Find moments in your daily life that bring you a sense of fulfilment.

Life isn’t always about having all the answers. Enjoy the ride, embrace the learning process, and be open to new experiences. Even an existential crisis can be an opportunity for personal growth.

If your existential crisis is causing significant anxiety, depression, or is interfering with your daily life, don’t hesitate to seek professional help from a therapist or counselor. They can provide you with tools and strategies to cope and move forward in a healthy way.

Everyone experiences doubt and questions their place in the world at some point. The key is to acknowledge these feelings, explore them in a healthy way, and find meaning in your own journey. There is no one right answer to life’s big questions, but with a little self-reflection, exploration, and support, you can build a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling.

Popular singer, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, better known as Skales, has revealed that he has been in a romantic relationship with over 100 women.

The ‘Shake Body’ crooner disclosed this in a recent episode of Drip Check.

He said, “I feel like I’ve been a dad all my life. I’ve been taking care of women all my life [laughs].

“I have dated over 100 women.”

Skales explained that he was a toxic boyfriend to most of the women he dated earlier in his career because he was young and reckless.

10 foods to avoid before bed for a good night’s sleep

A good night’s sleep is needed for your health and well-being,

Foods to avoid before going to bed [Quora]

Did you know what you eat before bedtime can significantly impact your sleep quality? Eating the wrong foods can cause discomfort, disrupt your sleep cycle, and leave you feeling restless in the morning.

Here’s a list of ten foods you should avoid before hitting the sheets to ensure you get a peaceful, uninterrupted night’s sleep.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Coffee [RollingOut]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Coffee [RollingOut]” width=”790″ height=”419″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/_hFktkpTURBXy9kZTg0Y2JlNjAyZDk0Y2U0M2ZiOGQ4Njk3OTdhZDNjZS5qcGeSlQMAAM0HgM0D-pUCzQMWzQGjwsM” />

It’s well-known that coffee is a stimulant, thanks to its high caffeine content, which can keep you awake. Drinking coffee late in the day can interfere with your sleep cycle, preventing you from falling asleep or causing you to wake up during the night. It’s best to avoid coffee and other caffeinated beverages at least six hours before bedtime.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Dark Chocolate" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Dark Chocolate” width=”770″ height=”533″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/pV0ktkpTURBXy8wNDcyODM2YTVmMGEwNGI3MTFjYzhhYzEwOTNiMGQ4My5qcGeRlQLNAwLNAhXCww” />

Like coffee, chocolate contains caffeine, especially dark chocolate with high cocoa content. Besides caffeine, chocolate also has theobromine, another stimulant that can increase your heart rate and sleeplessness. Avoid eating chocolate before bed to keep these stimulants from disturbing your sleep.

Spicy foods can cause heartburn and indigestion for many people, especially when lying down. Eating a spicy meal can lead to discomfort and wakefulness throughout the night, disrupting your sleep pattern.

Fatty foods can be hard to digest and may lead to discomfort and bloating. Foods like burgers, fries, and pizza should be avoided as they can keep your digestive system busy throughout the night, affecting your ability to fall and stay asleep.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData" title="Ice-cream " src="data:;base64,” alt=”Ice-cream ” width=”790″ height=”593″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/rcLktkuTURBXy8zOTM1YTZjNi03ZDc1LTQyYjQtYmExMi0xZWVkMTI0MWJkOGIuanBlZ5KVAwAAzQpozQfOlQLNAxbNAlHCww” />

While it may be tempting to treat yourself to a bowl of ice cream before bed, the high fat and sugar content can be a nightmare for your sleep. Sugar can spike your energy levels temporarily, followed by a crash, which can disrupt your sleep cycle.

Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are rich in acid and can cause heartburn and digestive issues when eaten before bed. It’s best to keep citrus fruits to earlier in the day to avoid any sleep disturbances.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Garlic and onions [Quora]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Garlic and onions [Quora]” width=”602″ height=”320″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/2eFktkqTURBXy8yYTY4YTU4Yzg5OTViMjY2ZmFmNDU3MzY1MTg3YzI2Mi5qcGVnkZUCzQJazQFAwsM” />

These flavorful ingredients can trigger heartburn and indigestive issues for many people. If you’re prone to stomach problems, it’s a good idea to avoid garlic and onions in your dinner to ensure a smoother sleep.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData" title="Soda [Getty Images]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Soda [Getty Images]” width=”790″ height=”537″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/h-YktkuTURBXy8zM2FiMDM0YS04NTJlLTQ2ZDktYmE4Yi1jYmJiZTBmNjc4MzkuanBlZ5KVAwAAzROYzQ1QlQLNAxbNAhnCww” />

Sodas and other sugary drinks can spike your blood sugar levels and then rapidly drop them, leading to restless sleep. Additionally, the carbonation in sodas can cause bloating and discomfort.

Eating large, heavy meals can strain your digestive system and keep you up at night. Try to keep your evening meal light and eat at least a few hours before bed to give your body time to digest.

While alcohol might help you fall asleep, it prevents deeper stages of sleep and often causes you to wake up in the middle of the night. To improve sleep quality, it’s best to limit alcohol consumption and avoid drinking close to bedtime.

7 common food allergies most people don’t know they have

Food allergies are a serious issue, affecting millions of people worldwide.

Common food allergies you may not know you have [Safefood]

We all know the classics – peanuts, milk, and shellfish. But what about the hidden allergies?

There are many lesser-known food allergies that can cause discomfort and even serious reactions if left undiagnosed.

So, how do you know if you have a hidden food allergy? Here are 7 common food allergies people often miss:

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Wheat allergy [Glutenfree]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Wheat allergy [Glutenfree]” width=”780″ height=”438″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/MryktkpTURBXy8wOGU3NDNjZWI5ZGY5NzQ1NjJmZWQ4ZTExMDY3NzJkYi5qcGeRlQLNAwzNAbbCww” />

Wheat allergies and gluten intolerance are often confused. A wheat allergy involves the immune system reacting to proteins in wheat, while gluten intolerance is a sensitivity to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. Symptoms of a wheat allergy can include hives, swelling, nausea, and difficulty breathing.

Soy is a hidden ingredient in many processed foods, from sauces and snacks to baked goods and veggie burgers. A soy allergy can cause a variety of symptoms, including skin problems, digestive issues, and wheezing.

Peanuts get all the attention, but allergies to other tree nuts like almonds, walnuts, cashews, and pecans are also common.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Tree nuts [FoodAllerfiesAtlanta]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Tree nuts [FoodAllerfiesAtlanta]” width=”790″ height=”444″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/igektkpTURBXy81OTRhYzQ3OTBjNGViN2Y0NTkzYmNmZGUxMDUxODYxYi5qcGeRlQLNAxbNAbzCww” />

These allergies can cause severe reactions, so it’s important to be aware if you experience symptoms like itching, swelling, or trouble breathing after consuming tree nuts.

Allergies to fish are becoming more common, especially among adults. Symptoms can range from mild (rash, nausea) to severe (anaphylaxis). If you experience any discomfort after eating fish, it’s important to see a doctor for testing.

Sesame allergies are on the rise, particularly in children. Sesame seeds can be found in a variety of foods, including baked goods and salad dressings. Symptoms of a sesame allergy can include hives, swelling, and difficulty breathing.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Shellfish [FoodAllergisAtlanta]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Shellfish [FoodAllergisAtlanta]” width=”790″ height=”527″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/kIjktkpTURBXy83OWI3MzJiNTAxMGE3NzhkMTZlNTZkM2FmNzU5ZjQwNy5qcGeRlQLNAxbNAg_Cww” />

Shellfish allergies are another common culprit. These allergies can cause serious reactions, so be cautious if you experience any discomfort after eating shrimp, crab, lobster, or clams.

This one might be surprising, but some people have allergies to stone fruits like peaches, plums, and cherries. These allergies are often linked to a pollen allergy (like birch pollen). Symptoms can include itching, tingling, or swelling in the mouth and throat after consuming the fruit.

If you suspect you have a food allergy, seeing a doctor for proper testing is important. Early diagnosis and avoidance of allergens can help prevent serious reactions and keep you feeling your best. Even if you’ve tolerated a food in the past, allergies can develop at any time so listen to your body and be more mindful of what you put in it.

Reps move to investigate escape of Binance executive, deny bribe allegations

The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into the escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla (Head of Binance Africa) from the custody of the National Security Adviser.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Dennis Okafor on Wednesday during plenary.

It would be recalled that Mr Anjarwalla and Tigran Gambaryan were detained in Abuja before the former escaped out of custody and subsequently fled the country.

In the motion, Okafor said the escape of Anjarwalla from custody was an embarrassment to Nigeria.

He prayed the House to investigate the circumstances that led to the escape.

Meanwhile, the House also denied the alleged soliciting of bribes from some persons.

Kama Nkem Kanma raised a point of order on privilege, stating that the House cannot be embarrassed.

Although the lawmaker did not mention Binance, however, it would be recalled that the CEO of Binance, Richard Teng recently accused some members of the House of demanding bribes from them.

Teng, in a blog he posted on X on Tuesday, accused the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes of demanding money during a probe.

Kanma said the House never made such a demand from Binance and called for strong action.

Ruling on the point of order, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas ordered the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Danzaria to use the media to refute the claim.

7 things men do when they don’t love you

In relationships, love is often shown through actions rather than words.

Men do these things when they don’t love you [anewmode]

The absence of love can also be revealed in the way someone behaves. When a man doesn’t love you, his actions and choices can speak louder than any words.

It’s important to recognise these signs to understand where you stand in your relationship. Here, we will discuss seven common behaviours that might indicate a man’s lack of affection and commitment towards you, helping you see the bigger picture and make informed decisions about your relationship.

When a man doesn’t love you, one of the first signs is a drop in communication. He might not text or call as often as he used to, and when he does, his messages may be short and lack warmth. If you find that you are always the one initiating conversations and there’s little effort from his side to keep in touch, it could be a sign that his feelings have changed.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="A man who loves you will want to spend time with you [iStock]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”A man who loves you will want to spend time with you [iStock]” width=”612″ height=”407″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/a69ktkpTURBXy84N2E3NzZmZmM3NmYzNGRhNThjNGU5MDkyMzdhNTg4NC5qcGeRlQLNAmTNAZfCww” />

Another clear indicator is the lack of desire to spend quality time together. If he often makes excuses to avoid meeting up or is always too busy with other things, it might suggest that he’s not as invested in the relationship. A man in love will make time for his partner, no matter how busy his schedule is.

When a man is in love, he sees his partner in his future plans. If he avoids discussing or making future plans with you, it could be a warning sign. This can include anything from planning holidays together to talking about major life events. His reluctance to think about the future with you might indicate a lack of serious commitment.

A man who loves you will want to share aspects of his life with you — his thoughts, feelings, and daily experiences.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="A man who loves you will want to share aspects of his life with you [Pulse]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”A man who loves you will want to share aspects of his life with you [Pulse]” width=”790″ height=”446″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/0ixktkpTURBXy9kOGRkZWY5NTUyYWM1NGU4M2I0MjcyMGNlZmE4MTBhMy5qcGeRlQLNAxbNAb7Cww” />

If he becomes secretive or shuts you out from important parts of his life, it might mean he doesn’t feel close or connected to you. This lack of openness can be a significant indicator of a lack of affection.

In a relationship, effort can show up in many ways, from small gestures like sending you your favourite flowers to bigger commitments like making changes to make you happy. If these efforts start to vanish, and he no longer tries to do things that please you or make you feel loved, this can be a sign that he’s not emotionally invested in the relationship anymore.

Support is a cornerstone of any loving relationship. If a man loves you, he’ll support your ambitions, listen to your problems, and stand by you in difficult times. If he seems indifferent to your needs and doesn’t offer support, it’s a strong indication that his feelings might not be as deep as you thought.

While excessive jealousy is unhealthy, a small amount can be a sign of love and protectiveness. If he shows no reaction when you mention other men or when you spend time with them, it might not necessarily mean he trusts you completely—it could also suggest he’s not concerned about losing you.

Understanding these behaviours can help you make sense of your relationship and decide how to move forward. It’s essential to talk to your partner about your concerns and feelings. Recognising these signs early can save you from further heartache and help you focus on relationships that are truly fulfilling and loving.

UNN convocation: 252 students bag first class

A total number of 252 students have graduated with first class honour degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN.

This was made known by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Charles Igwe during a pre-convocation press briefing held at the main hall of the University’s Enugu campus.

He said, “I am pleased to announce that a total of 12, 526, which is an increase of 1082 compared to 51st convocation figure’s first degrees of the University of Nigeria, will be awarded at 52nd convocation.

“And the breakdown of the results are as follows, a total of 252 persons made first class honours degree, 4,834 made second class honours upper division, 5,883 made second class honours lower division, 747 made third class and 25 persons graduated with pass”.

Also, the vice chancellor stated that a total of 1,438 postgraduate degrees and diplomas of the University of Nigeria would be awarded during the convocation ceremony.

The breakdown of the postgraduate degrees and diplomas are as follows: a total of 412 persons will be awarded the Doctorate Degree, while 961 persons will be awarded the Masters degrees, as well as a total of 75 postgraduate diplomas.

Igwe further disclosed that a convocation lecture tagged “Why Universities Should Lead The Way to A New Nigeria”, would be delivered by the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma on Thursday, May 9.

He used the opportunity to bring to limelight some of the achievements his administration has recorded in the past five years.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to raising the bar of the university before he bows out in June 2024.

Igwe said, “We were here in October last year to flag off the activities of the 63rd Founders’ Day celebration and 51st convocation ceremony.

“On both occasions, I presented a comprehensive address in which I shared so many of the recent developments at the University of Nigeria.

“The address covered the recent progress we have made in the area of academic output, staff promotion, infrastructural development, new research grants and promotion etc. They formed part of what I described as the state of the campus address.

“A total of 12 of the projects have now been completed, while two new projects have been inaugurated. One of these new projects is the new building for the Department of Mass Communication, while the other is the much awaited senate building.

“I am particularly proud and happy about the new senate building, because it was almost ridiculous that our university was the only first generation university without a senate building.

“As a result, on assumption of office, I identified the senate building as one of my top priorities. Attracting and getting the approvals of TETFUND and the Federal Executive Council for the senate building was an uphill task, and this can be considered one of the biggest infrastructural achievements of the University of Nigeria in recent times.”

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (crushed)
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger and garlic
<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Barbeque Chicken wings [fry it]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Barbeque Chicken wings [fry it]” width=”790″ height=”1185″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/vv7ktkpTURBXy84MTA3MmVlYjUwMTI4ZWY1MzAzZDRhOTZkOTU1MDI4ZC5qcGeRlQLNAxbNBKHCww” />

For the coating

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (crushed)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika

For the BBQ sauce

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons of chilli sauce
  • Oil for frying
  1. Marinate the Wings: In a bowl, combine the chicken wings with salt, red chilli powder, black pepper, and a grated ginger-garlic mixture. Massage the spices well onto the wings and set aside to marinate for at least 30 minutes.

2. Prepare the coating: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cornflour, remaining spices, and herbs. This dry mixture will create a crispy crust for the wings.

3. Rub and Fry: Heat oil in a large pot or deep fryer to medium-high heat (around 350°F). Rub each marinated wing thoroughly in the flour mixture, making sure they are coated evenly. Carefully add the wings to the hot oil and fry for 10–12 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the wings and drain them on paper towels.

4. Make the BBQ Sauce: In a separate saucepan over low heat, combine the barbecue sauce, honey, and chilli sauce. Whisk for 3–4 minutes until well heated and slightly thickened.

5. Throw the crispy wings in the warm BBQ sauce, making sure they’re evenly coated in that delicious flavour.

Viola! You have made delicious chicken wings.

This was contained in a circular addressed to all heads of local government administration signed by the Director of Information and Communications of the commission, Ebirieneuket, Nteile.

According to the circular, any staff member who “disobeys or violates the instructions will be dismissed from service accordingly”.

The circular reads, “I am directed to inform you and all officers of the 23 Local Government Councils in Rivers State not to honour/appear before the Members of Assembly or any purported invitation by anybody or group of persons in any guise without the permission of the Acting Chairman- Local Government Service Commission”.

DAILY POST reports that the development may not be unconnected with the political crisis ravaging the state.

The political space in Rivers State has been in turmoil following the face-off between the state governor, Sim Fubara and his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

Recall that the State House of Assembly on April 22, passed the Rivers State Local Government (Amendment) Bill into law by overriding the assent of Fubara.

The House, led by its Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, made the decision at its 159th Legislative sitting held at the Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State chapter on Tuesday directed the assembly members to immediately commence the proceedings for Fubara’s impeachment.

7 things a married man should never say to another woman

As a married man, you have to be careful how you talk to others, especially other women.

Things a married man should never say to another woman [Woman'sDay]

Being married can be great! You have a teammate, a best friend, and someone to share all life’s adventures with. But sometimes, things can get complicated.

Maybe you’re working late a lot, or you haven’t had a date night in forever. It’s natural to want to connect with other people, but when you’re married, there are some lines you shouldn’t cross, especially when it comes to what you say to other women.

So, what are some things a married man should keep to himself when talking to other women? Here are 7 things that are best left unsaid:

This one is a classic. It might feel good to vent to someone else, but complaining about your wife to another woman is a big no-no. If you’re having problems with your wife, talk to her! Sharing your feelings openly and honestly is the best way to work through any problems.

Even the most exciting relationships can have some quiet moments. Saying your marriage is boring is disrespectful to your wife and undermines all the good things you have together. Instead, focus on ways to add some spark back into your relationship. Plan a date night, try a new activity together, or simply reconnect by talking and spending quality time together.

Compliments are nice, but there’s a line. Telling another woman she’s “gorgeous” or “the prettiest woman in the room” when you’re married sends the wrong message.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Things a married man should never say to another woman [LinkedIn]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Things a married man should never say to another woman [LinkedIn]” width=”790″ height=”546″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/N0zktkqTURBXy9lODk5NzM5NjNkNzJhZmQ1YTY4ZGJkNmM3NDY0OWIzZC5qcGVnkZUCzQMWzQIiwsM” />

Stick to compliments about work achievements or friendly things. Save the compliments for your wife. Tell her how beautiful she is, and make her feel special.

Even if you’re just venting, talking badly about your wife to another woman is a big no-no. It shows disrespect and can make you seem untrustworthy. If you need to vent, talk to a trusted friend (who isn’t your wife’s friend) or even a therapist.

Marriage takes work, but it’s also a lot of fun! If you’re feeling nostalgic about your single days, focus on the positive aspects of your marriage. Plan a date night with your wife, reminisce about happy memories, or simply remind yourself why you fell in love in the first place.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData" title="Don't flirt with other women as a married man [Bonobologycom]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Don’t flirt with other women as a married man [Bonobologycom]” width=”790″ height=”443″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/DsuktkpTURBXy81YzE5NTM4YzFlNzgxNzQ5MmJlYjRiNDMxMDU3ZGY3Yi5qcGeRlQLNAxbNAbvCww” />

And when you’re married, that interest should be reserved for your wife. Even if you don’t mean anything by it, flirting can be hurtful and disrespectful. The same goes for suggestive jokes or comments. If you wouldn’t say it to your wife, it’s best to keep it to yourself.

This one is pretty obvious. Wishing you could spend more time with another woman is a big red flag. Your wife should be your priority. If you’re feeling disconnected or like you’re not spending enough quality time together, talk to your wife! Plan some activities you can both enjoy and make an effort to be present in your relationship.

Being married doesn’t mean you can’t talk to other women. But be mindful of your words and actions. A good rule of thumb: if you wouldn’t want your wife to hear you say it to another woman, then don’t say it! This applies to gossip, negative comments, or anything that could be hurtful or disrespectful.

The best way to avoid saying anything inappropriate is to focus on open and honest communication with your wife. If you’re feeling frustrated or need to talk about something, talk to her.

Nigerian govt orders registration of 1.9 million PoS operators

The Nigerian Government through the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has given Point of Sales (PoS) companies a two-month ultimatum, to register their agents, merchants, and individuals with the commission in line with legal requirements and the directives of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This followed a meeting between Fintechs and the Registrar-General CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, in Abuja.

It is believed that there are over 1.9 million PoS terminals being used by merchants and individuals nationwide.

Speaking at the meeting, the CAC boss said the measure aims at safeguarding the businesses of Fintech’s customers and strengthening the economy.

He further stressed that the action was equally backed by Section 863, Subsection 1 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, CAMA 2020 as well as the 2013 CBN guidelines on agent banking.

The CAC boss said the timeline for the registration, which will expire on July 7, 2024, was not targeted at any groups or individuals but genuinely aimed at providing protection for businesses.

A statement by the commission read, “The Corporate Affairs Commission and fintech companies in Nigeria, better known as PoS operators, have agreed to a two-month timeline to register their agents, merchants, and individuals with the CAC in line with legal requirements and the directives of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“The agreement was reached today during a meeting between Fintechs and the Registrar-General, CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, in Abuja.”

This new directive came against the backdrop of frequent fraud incidents involving POS terminals and plans to stop trading in cryptocurrency or any virtual currency by the Central Bank of Nigeria. POS terminals accounted for 26.37 per cent of fraud incidents in 2023, according to a fraud report by the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc.

Last week, the CBN stopped major fintech firms like Kuda, Opay, PalmPay and Moniepoint from onboarding new customers and instructed the companies to warn their customers against trading in cryptocurrency or any virtual currency on their apps, threatening to block any accounts found engaging in such activities.

EFCC arrests BDC operators as naira hits 1,416/$

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) picked up some Bureau De Change (BDC) operators at the Wuse Zone 4 market on Tuesday.

Traders claimed some BDC operators resisted the arrest during a sting operation.

The operatives had embarked on routine raids to sanitise the market of street traders and eliminate arbitrary trading.

But this move was resisted on Tuesday leading to gunshots and damage to the operative’s vehicles, two currency traders who witnessed the incident confirmed to Punch.

One of the traders who asked not to be named for fear of retribution said the traders simply acted out of frustration as the arrests were becoming too rampant and just to extort money from them.

He said, “EFCC guys came to raid and make an arrest on Monday and they came today (Tuesday) but today’s operation was too strong.

“This is the issue we are facing. Yesterday (Monday) they arrested traders but they were attacked back today and gunshots were fired because our people tried to resist the arrest. They were provoked and frustrated. They even broke the glasses of the EFCC vehicles today and that means people are getting tired and desperate.”

Another trader who confirmed the incident warned that a continued raid by the anti-corruption body might lead to killings.

The trader who also pleaded anonymity said, “If this thing continues like this, that means they would kill people because if they try to arrest next time, nobody would agree and another person would gather together so that nobody would be taken.

“That was happened today. People are now turning because all they do after arrest is to collect money from us. Nothing else is done. They are frustrating use.’

“I can’t imagine what it feels like for you” – May Edochie pens emotional note to Junior Pope’s wife on his posthumous birthday, shares his last messages

May Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has penned an emotional note to Jennifer Awele, the wife of late actor Junior Pope.

In a lengthy post on her Instagram page, the mother of four, who lost one of her children last year, stated that she can’t imagine what today feels like for her. She noted how posthumous birthdays could refresh all the sad memories and leave them stumped in thoughts.

She, however, admonished her to consider today as a heavenly birthday for him as he is celebrating with the stars. Sending her love and light, she urged her to be strong for her and the kids.

Sharing screenshots of Junior Pope’s last messages to his wife, she threw several questions at him, asking when he would send the next feeding money as she noted how he sent feeding money for March before his untimely death. She questioned when he would send her the footwear he had promised her, who we continue to praise his wife’s beauty now that he is gone and more.

May Edochie described his death as agonising partially because it could have been avoided; however, no one can question God.

“My dear @qutejay,
I can’t imagine what today feels like for you. Posthumous birthdays could refresh all the sad memories and leave one stumped in thoughts.

@qutejay Consider today a heavenly birthday for JP as he celebrates with the stars. I need you to be strong today for you and the kids. Sending you love and light.

JP! You sent feeding money for March; when will you send feeding money for April? What about May? June all the way to Dec? Slide 2.

JP! You said the footwear will be ready soon, when will they be delivered? Slide 3.

JP, you said she is beautifully created, and you always referred to her as the envy of all women; who will envy her now? Slide 4.

JP, how could they say you were no more the same day you sent money just before noon, 11:36, to be precise? Slide 5

JP, honestly, your exit is agonising, maybe cos it feels like it could have been avoided, but who are we to question God? He remains the Alpha and the Omega and the ONLY one that knows tomorrow. I wish you a happy posthumous birthday and pray that the Almighty gives your family and loved ones the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.

@qutejay, now it all makes sense to me when I decided to airdrop all this stuff over the weekend without any reason.

Continue to RIP JP!”.

It is no longer news that Junior Pope and five others lost their lives after drowning at Anam River on April 10th, 2024.

Yesterday, May 7th, 2024, would have been the actor’s 44th birthday; unfortunately, death took him away.

Some of his colleagues, like Rita Edochie, Nosa Rex, Rachael Okonkwo and Stanley Nwoko, marked his posthumous birthday. Taking the lead, Rita, his godmother, noted how she could no longer celebrate his birthday with him physically. She stated that her heart once more felt shattered as she threw some questions at him, revealing that she takes solace in knowing that he is watching over them.

Nosa Rex, otherwise known as Baba Rex, noted how they would have been celebrating his birthday. However, since he hadn’t been laid to rest, he wished him a happy birthday.

Rachael Okonkwo expressed heartbreak over how she can no longer call him to wish him a happy birthday. She prayed for God to accept his soul and promised he would forever remain in her heart.

Stanley Nwoko noted how this was his first birthday without his family, fans and colleagues. He expressed how saddened his heart is that they can’t see him anymore as he noted how death took him away like a thief; however, he gives thanks to God.
