Insecurity affecting education in Kaduna – Gov Uba Sani laments.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state says the educational system in the state is facing a crisis as a result of insecurity.

Speaking at a capacity training programme organised by the Nigeria Police Force Schools Protection Squad in Kaduna on Wednesday, Sani observed that school enrolment in the state has declined following the security challenges.

He explained that in some local government areas, insecurity has forced school consolidation, further pushing up the number of out-of-school children in the state.

According to the governor, “the recent kidnapping of 135 students from the LEA Primary and Junior Secondary School, Kuriga, Chikun LGA, tragically illustrates the devastating impact of insecurity on access to education and safety in the state.”

He believed that no nation can achieve its human capital development goals and make giant developmental strides if it fails to guarantee the safety and security of schools.

He added, “Kaduna is one of the states that have been waging a sustained battle against banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other forms of criminality.

“These non-state actors have disrupted socio-economic activities in the affected communities and are threatening our educational revitalization programme.

“Kaduna State’s educational system is facing a crisis of declining enrolment, with over 200,000 fewer primary school pupils recorded in the 2022/2023 academic session compared to the previous year.”

The governor lamented that the dramatic drop (from 2,111,969 in 2021/2022 to 1,734,704 in 2022/2023) is largely attributed to insecurity.

He added that in local government areas (LGAs) like Chikun, Birnin Gwari, Kajuru, Giwa, and Igabi, insecurity has forced school consolidation, further pushing up the number of out-of-school children.

To ensure that the education of the children in conflicts-prone and terrorists’ infested areas was not interrupted, he said they have to commence the merging of 359 schools with those in safe locations.

Sani commended the federal government for the N144.8b Safe Schools Financing Plan which was launched in 2022, saying that the plan was developed through rigorous consultations and strategic engagements with all relevant stakeholders in the education and security sectors, at national and sub-national levels.

Meanwhile, National Coordinator of Safe Schools Programme, Halima Iliya, said the federal government, in consultation and collaboration with states, local governments and critical agencies of government, including the military and other security agencies, had developed a Medium Term National Plan on Financing Safe Schools (2023-2026).

Alia’s car gift to Benue judiciary in order – Attorney General.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order of Benue State, Hon. Barr. Fidelis Mnyim has said the car gift to the judiciary by Governor Hyacinth Alia is a symbol of support and commitment as promised when he assumed office.

Barr Mnyim was reacting to a query posed by Prof. Ernest Ojukwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, in a tweet on Monday, 7th May 2024, challenging the viability of the autonomy granted to Benue State Judiciary if the State governor was still buying cars for them.

DAILY POST recalls that Governor Alia donated six (SUV) vehicles recently to the judiciary.

The Professor had wondered why Governor Alia of Benue State should procure vehicles for the state’s judiciary when the funds allocated to the judiciary could be utilized for that purpose.

The Attorney General of the State said that the procurement of vehicles for the judiciary constituted an additional benevolent gesture by the Governor.

He said the gesture was particularly significant in light of the fact that Governor Alia had already granted full financial autonomy to the judiciary in February 2024, encompassing both recurrent and capital expenditures, consequent upon which the judiciary is receiving her complete share of funds accruing from FAAC and IGR, proportionate to the percentage of the budget for the month.

Mnyim emphasized that the judiciary has the financial wherewithal to procure vehicles of their choice, as the allocated funds are released to them at the end of each month.

He said the governor only demonstrated his commitment to justice and the law, to supplement the financial autonomy with the donation of vehicles to the judiciary.

The Attorney General said the gesture was designed to inspire the judiciary to strive for excellence in their service delivery.

He further highlighted that Governor Alia’s benevolence extended beyond the judiciary, as his administration had implemented various initiatives aimed at enhancing staff welfare and effective service delivery across all sectors.

“The Governor’s commitment to the welfare of the judiciary and the entire citizenry of Benue State is evident in his unwavering dedication to fostering an environment conducive to justice, equity, and progress,” he stated.

Kogi: Gov Ododo spent 100 days serving Bello as special driver – Okai.

The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency, Usman Okai, has said Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State spent his first 100 days in office chauffeuring around the former Governor of the State, Yahaya Bello, with taxpayers’ money.

Okai said Ododo’s 100 days in office is a display of sycophancy that is as shameful as it is concerning.

In a statement he signed, the PDP chieftain said that instead of focusing on the pressing issues that “plague our state education, healthcare, infrastructure” Ododo chose to prioritize the “whims of a political ally over the needs of the people.”

According to Okai, “while our schools crumble and our hospitals remain under-equipped, Ododo saw fit to dedicate his time to serving as a personal chauffeur, a luxury reserved for the elite while the masses suffer.”

He said: “This is not governance; this is a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the citizens of this state.

“What message does this send to the hardworking citizens who rely on their elected officials to enact positive change?

“It is a slap in the face to every teacher struggling to educate our children, every doctor working tirelessly to save lives, and every citizen who pays their taxes in the hope of a better tomorrow.

“Governor Ododo’s actions speak volumes about his character and his commitment to the people he was elected to serve.

“He has shown himself to be nothing more than a puppet, dancing to the tune of his political masters while neglecting the very people who entrusted him with their futures.

“But let us not forget that Governor Ododo is not alone in his culpability. Those who stand by silently, complicit in his actions, are just as guilty.

“We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to such egregious misconduct, for to do so would be to condone it.

“It is time for us, the people, to hold our leaders accountable. We must demand better from those who claim to represent us, and we must never waver in our pursuit of justice and equality for all.

“Governor Ododo’s 100 days have been marked by a shameful display of self-interest and negligence. We deserve better, and it is up to us to ensure that our voices are heard loud and clear.”

UCL: ‘I’m sorry, made a mistake’ – Bayern’s De Ligt claims Linesman apologised over disallowed goal.

Bayern Munich defender, Matthijs de Ligt has said that the linesman apologized to him following their 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid.

He said the linesman apologised for an error during the second leg of the Champion League semi-final.

The game ended 2-1 in favour of the Spanish giants on Wednesday night.

Alphonso Davies gave Bayern the lead with a spectacular strike in the 68th minute but the Germans could not hold their lead to the end as Joselu scored a late brace (88′, 90+1′) to seal a comeback win for the 15-time champions.

Real Madrid will now play another German Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund in the final.

After Joselu’s second goal, Bayern put the ball in the back of the net but the goal was ruled out as De Ligt was adjudged offside.

The Dutch defender said after the match (via Fabrizio Romano on X): “If it’s offside, it’s offside. But I think we made rules in football and the rules say if it isn’t clear offside, which it wasn’t, because I haven’t seen it yet, of course I don’t know.

“You have to keep playing. If you go in at the last minute and you whistle like this, yeah, I think it’s a big mistake….. This is a shame.”

“The linesman said to me, ‘I am sorry, I made a mistake.’ In the end, you know, I am not the type of person to blame the rules or the referee,” he added.

Singer Wizkid accused of living in his former glory and clout-chasing

The full video is on YouTube and you don’t want to miss it.

This episode of Pulse Hot Takes focuses on Wizkid

Pulse Hot Takes is a weekly YouTube talk show hosted by Elvis Christian and Christabel Ago. Every week the hosts speak with guests on trending issues and dissect problems that Nigerians face. In this episode, they were joined by content creator/strategist Busayo Debs and lifestyle reporter Davy Ben.

April 2024 ended on a rather controversial note when Wizkid’s interactive session with fans took a different turn after he posted a video of Davido crying. That led to a scathing face-off between both stars on X after Davido responded.

Wizkid also called music business mogul Don Jazzy an “influencer” during a conversation with a fan on X.

See below what was said on this episode:

Elvis said, “Don Jazzy is more than an influencer. Props to all the influencers, they are amazing in their own right. But I feel like this whole thing made people start rubbishing influencers. Don Jazzy is a person of influence and starts conversations, but I don’t know what WizKid was going for with that narrative. It was unnecessary.”

Davy Ben said, “The term Influencer is not an insult. We don’t know what might have happened between them behind the scenes.”

Busayo countered, “WizKid was rude and condescending. He and Don Jazzy aren’t on the same level. He shouldn’t come out and say such.”

Busayo asserted that Wizkid is living in his former glory and has no new songs being played at clubs.

She said, “When you want to talk about artistes with projects you can talk about Burna Boy but not Wizkid. Let him sit down and retire. He’s living in his past glory! When you go to clubs, how many WizKid songs do they play? Except for his old songs. Come with facts.”

Busayo stressed that Wizkid’s social media outbursts were to chase clout, possibly in preparation for new music.

“One thing Wizkid fans always say is that he doesn’t talk or react to people. But now that he has been clout-chasing on Twitter what will they say? He’s a clout chaser. Now that he wants to drop a song or an album he remembers his Twitter password,” she said.

Davy Ben knocked Wizkid’s fans for their inability to call him out or hold him accountable.

He said, “Wizkid has the strongest fan base in Africa, but my problem with them is that they put him on such a pedestal and they can’t hold him accountable.”

Ajebo Hustlers returns to class for ‘Bad Boy Etiquette 102’ [Review]

On ‘Bad Boy Etiquette 102’ Ajebo Hustlers (Knowledge & Piego) offers insights into the making of a shrewd young man.

Ajebo Hustlers returns to class for 'Bad Boy Etiquette 102'

Knowledge‘s smooth narrative rap style and Piego‘s supreme melody molding abilities make Ajebo Hustler’s music a fine work of art that thrives on the simplicity of language and compelling relatability.

Coming from the dire realities of life in Port Harcourt, Ajebo Hustlers are driven to become successful and put their city on the map like other great exports from the oil-rich City. This ambition is conveyed in ‘Dreams II’ on which they recruit on-form hip hop stars Zlatan & Blaqbonez to share what continues to fuel their pursuit for success.

Focus on their goal and averse to all forms of distractions, On ‘You Go Know’, they restate their desire for stress-free life through a smooth deployment of Port Harcourt pidgin lingo that thrives on Piego’s sheer melody molding brilliance.

Ajebo Hustlers draws from personal experiences and they share their struggle with addiction on the bouncy record ‘Last Week’ on which Jeriq questions the “smokers are liable to die young” narrative in quintessential street hop star and stoner fashion.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData aligncenter" title="Ajebo Hustlers" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Ajebo Hustlers” width=”790″ height=”988″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/mH9ktkqTURBXy8wNzhmMjY5NjM0OGUzMWZhMWFmYzgyYjg2YjBkYzYzNy5qcGVnkpUDAADNEo_NFzKVAs0DFs0D3MLD” />

While their looks and style of music embrace the Port Harcourt tough boy exterior, Ajebo Hustlers often takes off this exterior to display a more emotional side. This exploration of tender matters of the heart forms a bulk of the album as Ajebo Hustlers provide an update on their pursuit of romantic desires.

On ‘Bad Boy Etiquette 102’, Ajebo Hustlers balances their sonics and ideology with guest artists who offer stock versions of themselves.

Odumodublvck’s hyper-masculine rap style is complimented by Knowledge’s calm narrative style on ‘Celine Dion’ where Piego’s melodies shine as they blur the lines between love and lust.

On ‘Kisses II’ they recruited the Magixx, an artist who loves to deep into his emotions to discuss matters of the heart as they admit that even a bad boy can fall hard.

If listeners learn anything from Ajebo Hustlers’ pursuit of romantic bliss, it’s that it has been far from successful. On the Afro-Swing record ‘Sweet & Sour,’ they combine with Ghanaian superstar King Promise with whom they let out the pain of having a lover with one foot outside the door.

Listeners get to share Ajebo Hustlers’ painful experience in pursuit of love on ‘Wicked’. The women question will get a chance to have their say thanks to Raebel‘s captivating vocals on the Konto bounce ‘Undecided’ where she accused Knowledge and Piego of being equally hot and cold even as they roll out smooth bars and fine melodies in impressive sweet-talking.

The art of being a Bad Boy requires introspection and self-awareness. Ajebo Hustlers makes this clear on the rap record ‘No Wam’ where they promise that two can play the game. On the highlife strings of ‘Burn My Cable II,’ where Sarkodie leaves his mark with his trademark flows, Knowledge shares the fuck boy accusations he faces while making no attempt to defend himself.

On ‘Bad Boy Etiquette 102’ Ajebo Hustlers offers insights into the making of a shrewd young man. By drawing from the realities that forge their talent and drive their ambition, Ajebo Hustlers makes music that captures the nuances of the bad boy lifestyle amidst the continuous pursuit of pleasure. Placing ‘Dreams II’ as the album opener symbolises that personal ambition is superior to emotional and sexual desires while also emphasising the need for confidence and self-awareness in the continuous pursuit of success, love, and happiness.

Tinubu lacks power to reinstate you – South South leader, Sara-Igbe hits 27 Rivers lawmakers.

The National Coordinator of the South-South Leadership Forum, Sara-Igbe has said that the 27 Rivers State lawmakers are impostors in the eyes of the law.

DAILY POST reports that the crisis in Rivers politics intensified on Wednesday following the election of a new Speaker by two members of the House of Assembly loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

This is following the move to impeach Governor Fubara by the pro-Wike lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Sara-Igbe said they have no right to impeach Fubara, citing that by the virtue of the law, they are now seen as impostors.

He said this during an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, insisting that President Tinubu also lacks the right to “overrule a court of competent jurisdiction.”

“The people who call themselves members of the House of Assembly as honourables, are not honourable enough.

“An honorable person is one who stands by his word. In this instance, we have not seen that in them. If you cannot obey laws and you are a lawmaker, who will obey your law.

“We see them as impostors because by virtue of section 109 (F), they are no longer members of the House of Assembly and that is why the elders of Rivers State, including myself, went to court.

“Unfortunately, the chief judge took the case from the Judge that it was assigned to and gave it to the judge of the former governor who did not even listen to us.

“We are saying those 27 lawmakers are no longer members of the House of Assembly, this is before the court and by virtue of the rule of law, if a case is before a court, status quo remains; everyone will wait for the judges to make a decision. I expected the House of Assembly members who are making laws to wait for the judiciary to interpret the law.

“They went ahead to be reeling out laws; laws that they could not do when Wike was the governor, laws they amended to suit Wike’s administration, now they want to change it because they feel Sim is not in the same book with them nor taking orders from their master. We are saying they cannot put legality on illegality.

“Mr. President does not have powers under the democracy, particularly the 1999 constitution, to direct a governor who was elected the same way he was elected. The president does not have power to overrule a court of competent jurisdiction.

“The whole process is illegal; they are no longer members of the House of Assembly; their seats have been declared vacant and a court of competent jurisdiction has accepted that verdict.

“So, I don’t know what they are still waiting for and they did not appeal. They ran to the president and gave him a script to read for them.

“The Rivers people are saying the script is illegal because as far as we are concerned, the Assembly members cannot do anything except they want River State to burn. We are saying the whole eight points of Mr. President is illegal.”
