6 new podcasts to listen to this week

1. That Was Us

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms

Genre: TV

I think This Is Us is one of the best TV shows to have ever been written. So listening to the new rewatch podcast, That Was Us, hosted by Mandy MooreSterling K Brown and Chris Sullivan, was a real treat.

The first episode took me back to how floored I was after watching the pilot episode, where Rebecca (Moore) went into early labour, Randall (Brown) finds his biological father (Ron Cephas Jones), Kevin (Justin Hartley) faces a personal and professional crisis and Kate (Chrissy Metz) finds herself at a low point.

The co-hosts first talk about how they got the role and their first table read – which is also when they first met each other – and how tricky it can be because not everyone brings their A-game. But luckily for them, the script was extraordinary and everyone did.

It was heartwarming to hear some of the stars of the show have a candid conversation about such a pivotal point in their careers. They are thoughtful and honest and still have that family bond, which imitates the very essence of the show. “There’s a certain level of objectivity that is hard to have when you are in the midst of everything,” Brown admits, and I agree.

Maybe I should rewatch the show alongside Moore, Brown and Sullivan, and experience that moment again, the one when I realised that all the characters are connected at the end of the pilot.

2. Nobody Panic

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms

Genre: Comedy

Nobody Panic, produced by Plosive Podcasts and hosted by Tessa Coates and Stevie Martin, has reached its 300th episode.

To mark what is truly a remarkable milestone, for a podcast that has proven to be a listener’s guidebook to navigating adulthood without screaming all the time, the co-hosts tackle a big, small, fun and sometimes scary question: how to plan a wedding?

Without panicking, the pair take that bold step and share a lot of advice for anyone about to tie the knot – well for Coates, who is getting married, it’s equivalent to wading into admin hell.

Usually, people are told to not mention that they are planning a proper wedding when making enquiries to vendors because the price bracket automatically doubles. But Coates and Martin think otherwise, to avoid any disappointment.

A surprising revelation was Coates also revealing that she had accidentally set up an entire company to reduce the price of plates. I think there’s an art to not taking yourself too seriously, and Coates and Martin do it well.

3. I Think You Should Read

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms

Genre: Arts

The second Acast Amplifier podcast in Ireland, I Think You Should Read, hosted by bookworms Rachel and Áine is a great podcast for people who race through books and are always looking for their next read.

Thanks to the highly successful podcast incubator programme – this time in Ireland – Rachel and Áine were able to produce and launch their new podcast and receive benefits worth a maximum of €100,000, including a €2,000 grant.

The premise is that the hosts ask their guests what book they think everyone should read and why. And then go and read it for themselves and judge it very harshly. But in this week’s episode, the co-hosts are pretty impressed with what their guest Mark O’Connell, author of A Thread of Violence: A Story of Truth, Invention, and Murder, has recommended – The Adversary: A True Story of Monstrous Deception by Emmanuel Carrère.

It’s always great hearing people talk about why they love and hate books because it’s all so subjective, and that’s what makes I Think You Should Read such a fascinating podcast.

4. Pass the Meerkat

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Comedy

When Pass the Meerkat, created by 9ine Degrees, released the first episode of their animated series and podcast in 2019, it was an innovative and exciting offering to the podcast space.

In the latest episode, co-hosts and friends Peter Olasoji, Peter Adebayo, Mansur Saadu, Tim Akinbogun, Deji Maxwell, Vish Patel, Emmanuel Jaiyeola, Sheikh Sesay and Fabion Simms, who was welcomed back after taking some paternity leave to focus on his newborn son, mostly speak about Adebayo’s recent destination wedding and his stag do in France.

But before he spoke about how marriage has given him a new sense of responsibility and why he had so many of his family and friends present – 21 to be precise – Olasoji talks about how fatherhood has been so far.

Think boy’s WhatsApp group chat and hilarious animated skits, the lads on Pass the Meerkat all have interesting takes on a variety of topics and can share some crazy stories in such an engaging way. But I think how palpable their long-term friendship is – some met at university – is what I love the most about it.

5. Lagos Meets London

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Personal stories

In the latest episode of Lagos Meets London, a podcast that launched in February 2023 and aims to bridge the gap between both the vibrant and dynamic cultures of Lagos and London, hosts Toyosi Ojulari, Alice Oyeniyi and Hakeem Badru talk to the first woman to solo drive from London to Lagos, Nigeria, Pelumi Nubi.

After a quick game of naming as many countries in Africa, they asked Nubi, who is now an ambassador of Nigeria tourism, about the ups and downs of her travels. Particularly about her experience in Liberia, where she struggled to cross the border and had to sleep in her right-handed purple Peugeot car called Lumi for two nights.

Before embarking on this life-changing trip, the solo travel advocate and founder of luxury travel agency Oremi Travels shared that she has already visited over 80 countries – 87 to be exact – but knew that this trip would be different, after going from 12,000 followers on Instagram to 100,000 after just announcing her intentions.

Lagos Meets London made Nubi feel right at home, which helped to set the relaxed, comedic and frank tone of the episode. They were genuinely curious, proud and inspired by her achievements, which I’m sure many listeners would be too.

6. God is my Creative Director

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Arts

When Buku approached multidisciplinary artist Laci Jordan at Everyday People, she was initially anxious. But after their short yet meaningful interaction, Jordan quickly went to make a note of some of the affirmations the founder and host of God is my Creative Director (GIMC) showered her with. “You are the personification of possibility,” Buku told Jordan on the dance floor.

Apart from this being such a beautiful way to meet her next guest, it perfectly illustrates the heart behind the LMN Creative Studios-produced show, which invites creatives and entrepreneurs from various spaces to have faith-inspired conversations about God’s role in their journeys.

After working at CAA as a senior graphic designer, Jordan needed a job that would accommodate how much she was evolving but couldn’t find the right role until she realised that the answer was her all along.

Hearing Jordan talk so passionately to Buku about being more than enough, how she initially grappled with identifying as a creative, imposter syndrome, the urges she has to pivot, comparison and why she refuses to put herself in a box, was so refreshing.

Lack of sleep affects your life more than you think — here’s what you need to fix

2 mn read

Short sleep and insomnia can devastate the body and accelerate old age. Scientists have evidence that every sleepless night not only affects our well-being, but also increases our subjective age.

Sleep is a key element of mental and physical health, and lack of it makes us feel tired, lethargic and deprived of energy.

What does this mean for us and can this process be reversed? Scientists have conducted studies that have shown how much lack of sleep affects the aging process.

Sleep is a key element of mental and physical health, and lack of it makes us feel tired, lethargic and deprived of energy.

Scientists from the University of Stockholm conducted research that showed that insufficient sleep can accelerate the aging process of the body by up to several years.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData" title="Sleep is a key element of mental and physical health [iStock]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Sleep is a key element of mental and physical health [iStock]” width=”612″ height=”408″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/vKPktkpTURBXy8wMGU5ZWQ3OWNkOTVlNThiMWEwNTZjMDdkNjRkZWY1ZS5qcGeSlQMAAM0CZM0BmJUCzQJkzQGYwsM” />

In the first study, scientists examined 429 people aged 18 to 70, asking about their subjective age and sleep habits. The research results may be surprising, because it turned out that each sleepless night increased their subjective age by an average of 0.23 years.

For another study, scientists involved 186 people aged 18 to 46 who slept only four hours for two nights and nine hours for the next two nights. Reducing the amount of sleep increased their subjective age by as much as 4.4 years.

Research has also shown that people with the early bird sleep chronotype have a lower subjective age than those who are most active in the evening and go to bed very late. However, sleep disorders are more difficult to cope with.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData" title="Short sleep and insomnia can devastate the body and accelerate old age [iStock]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Short sleep and insomnia can devastate the body and accelerate old age [iStock]” width=”612″ height=”354″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/UsQktkpTURBXy8wODBjMDA5ODE3NzQzOWM4MjNjYmI0MmEzOTQ0NTQwOC5qcGeSlQMAAM0CZM0BYpUCzQJkzQFiwsM” />

Insufficient sleep makes us feel older. Sleep deficiency may not only weaken immunity, but also worsen mental condition, weaken cognitive functions, and cause memory problems.

Research has shown that changing your sleep habits and practicing better sleep hygiene can significantly improve your well-being and prevent premature aging.

In addition, it is also worth taking care of physical activity, leading a healthy lifestyle and moving regularly. Movement, especially outdoors, oxygenates the body, stimulates the circulatory system and causes more nutrients to reach individual organs.

An oxygenated body regenerates more easily, so after a long walk we fall asleep and rest faster.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData" title="Insufficient sleep can accelerate the aging process of the body by up to several years [Everyday Health]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Insufficient sleep can accelerate the aging process of the body by up to several years [Everyday Health]” width=”790″ height=”445″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/QuiktkpTURBXy84M2MzMThiNDNjM2U0NjYyOGYwZjAzOWJkNGE0OGI4MS5qcGeSlQMAAM0FoM0DKpUCzQMWzQG9wsM” />

People who suffer from insomnia and sleep disorders should change their evening habits.

It is good to take a walk every day before going to bed (if possible) and to air the bedrooms thoroughly.

In addition, experts recommend limiting the use of electronic devices, not watching stimulating films or series, and turning off social media. Blue light emission can disrupt melanin production and worsen insomnia problems.

Abill for an act to establish the Federal Polytechnic in Onueke, Ezza LGA of Ebonyi, scaled second reading in the Senate on Wednesday.

This followed the presentation of the general principles of the bill by the sponsor, Kenneth Eze (APC-Ebonyi), at plenary on Wednesday.

Presenting the bill, Mr Eze said it was read first on August 1, 2023.

He said the school was an initiative that had the potential to advance human capital development and provide an assured future for youths in Nigeria and Ebonyi in particular.

He said that although education remained a cornerstone of any progressive society, there was still more work to be done to address the skill-based educational needs of underserved regions.

He said polytechnics were renowned for providing practical and skill-based education, specialising in technical disciplines, ICT and applied sciences.

“By establishing a Federal Polytechnic in Onueke, Ezza South LGA, Ebonyi State ensures that the youth of this region have access to quality technical education.”

He said the technical education would enable them to acquire the skills needed for technical competence and self-employment in an increasingly competitive labour market.

Contributing, Jimoh Ibrahim (APC-Ondo) urged the federal government to not only establish the school but also see to the establishment of federal polytechnics in all the senatorial districts to drive and ensure science and technology education in Nigeria.

Mr Ibrahim said the number of young people who finished secondary school annually in Nigeria was on the increase, hence the need to establish more polytechnics to prepare them for skill, science and technology-based education.

Victor Umeh (LP-Anambra) also supported the bill and called for efforts to ensure that the school focuses on the delivery of technical education, given the high number of youths in the state in search of technical and science education.

Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin (APC-Kano), who presided over the plenary, referred the bill to the Senate Committee on Education and Tertiary Institutions for further legislative input to return in two weeks.

The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Tuesday summoned the state Commissioner for Health, Asabe Balarabe, to appear before its committee next Tuesday after failure to honour previous invitations.

The Chairman, House Committee on Health, Kabiru Dauda (APC-Gada East), announced the resolution after the committee’s meeting with the contractor handling the construction of Premier Hospital Binji and the Chief Medical Director of Orthopaedic Hospital Wamakko.

The committee had summoned these officials after identifying irregularities during its oversight visit on May 7.

Mr Dauda expressed disappointment that in spite of two invitations by the committee, the commissioner did not respond in writing or send any representative.

“As lawmakers, we are committed to ensuring the best for our people and protecting the government. Disregarding our invitation is a violation of legislative empowerment and the rule of law. Consequently, the committee ordered the commissioner to appear at the assembly on May 21, at 12:00 pm without fail,” he started.

Regarding the Premier Hospital in Binji, situated in the headquarters of Binji Local Government Area of the state, Mr Dauda expressed the committee’s total rejection of the project’s execution.

He highlighted discrepancies in quality compared to a similar project in Tambuwal LGA despite the fact that both contractors received a 30 per cent down payment.

Mr Dauda lamented the poor quality of work and directed the contractor to return to the site promptly and rectify the deficiencies.

Similarly, concerning the Wamakko Orthopaedic Hospital in Wamakko LGA, the committee resolved to investigate the circumstances surrounding the missing medical equipment from the newly-constructed sections of the facility.

The chairman expressed concern over how unauthorised individuals accessed the hospital and stole vital facilities intended for the benefit of the people of the state and beyond.

Reps committee inspects FMC Keffi, condemns assault on female doctor

The House of Representatives Committee on Health Institutions has condemned the assault on a female doctor by family members of a deceased patient at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, Nasarawa State.

The Chairman of the Committee, Amos Magaji, made the committee’s stance known shortly after members carried out an oversight visit at the FMC Keffi in Keffi Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.

The four members of a deceased patient allegedly assaulted a female doctor on Tuesday, at about 11pm on the premises of the medical centre.

The victim was slapped several times while trying to pass a walkway overcrowded by the deceased patient’s family members.

Reacting to the development, Mr Magaji who said addressing the incident was the committee’s first engagement on entering the medical centre for their oversight function described it as unacceptable.

He said, “As a committee, we condemn it in clear terms. It is unacceptable for anybody to harass and assault any health worker. Anybody who does that will be handled accordingly. The law of Nigeria will take full effect to ensure that assault, intimidation, harassment of health workers must stop by all means.’’

He assured that his committee would ensure those accused of assaulting the female doctor were prosecuted and made to face the wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.

“If we allow this to pass, people will continue to do it. We don’t want a situation where somebody will stab a doctor. We will bring these people to book and ensure they are punished,” he said.

Mr Magaji added that the committee also went round the medical centre and inspected projects executed by management of the centre within the 2022 and 2023 budget framework.

“Coming into this hospital, what we noticed is that the budgetary allocation for the hospital is by far too low to handle the patient load of this hospital. Nevertheless we have heard the challenges facing the hospital and we will see to it that intervention is done for this hospital and of course in the 2025 appropriation we will ensure enough money is appropriated for the hospital,” he said.

In an interview, the Chief Medical Director of FMC Keffi, Dr Ysahaya Adamu, appreciated the visit of the House of Representatives committee which he said would afford them to know firsthand some of the challenges facing the medical centre.

He said, “We thank them for coming and making very objective assessment of the situation we are in and I am sure they will look at us differently in the next year budget.’’

Mr Adamu who said that one of the four accused of assaulting a female doctor in the hospital had already been arrested assured that every necessary step was already being taken in conjunction with security agencies to arrest the remaining three to face justice.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump agree to debate twice before presidential election

President Joe Biden and his predecessor, Donald Trump, have decided to face off in two debates leading up to the 2024 U.S. presidential election. The first debate will be hosted by CNN on June 27 in Atlanta, Georgia and the second by ABC News on September 10.

Mr Biden, on Wednesday, announced his willingness to slug it out against his strongest opponent Mr Trump as part of efforts to win over voters and portray the latter as a man unfit to lead the nation. Surprisingly, Mr Trump — who had previously declined debates organised by his Republican party — did not shy from the challenge.

The former president believes it to be his best chance to expose Mr Biden shortcomings and sway voters to his party.

The debate, however, comes with conditions, which include the sparring taking place in a TV studio without any audience and with microphones that go off automatically after the time allotted to a speaker elapses.

Mr Biden’s team believes Mr Trump might leverage the cheers and jeers of the audience to throw unnecessary jabs at their principal and might also exceed the given time for each question.

The president’s team turned down debates organised by Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) opting for news stations where Mr Biden and his opponent can freely choose dates (before the election) that favour them.

The debate may preclude independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr, who bemoaned the agreement, claiming the duo were “trying to exclude me from their debate because they are afraid I would win.”

“Let’s pick the date, Donald. I hear you’re free on Wednesdays,” Mr Biden said, throwing a jab at Mr Trump, who had a court hearing every other day of the week except Wednesday.

Mr Trump did not hold back in his retort as he implied Mr Biden was a coward who was “afraid of crowds.”

“I would strongly recommend more than two debates and, for excitement purposes, a very large venue, although Biden is supposedly afraid of crowds – That’s only because he doesn’t get them,” Mr Trump said in response to Mr Biden’s taunt.

LAGESC nabs two men for illegally renting out govt. building

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) says it has arrested two men who allegedly and illegally rented a government building located within three public schools in Amuwo-Odofin area to the public.

The LAGESC Corps Marshall, Maj. Olaniyi Cole, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday after raiding the two-storey uncompleted building primarily built for persons with disabilities.

Mr Cole noted that the school premises housing the uncompleted building, also has Amuwo Odofin Nursery  and Primary School, Iganmu Senior High School and Unity Nursery and Primary School.

He said that investigation carried out before the raid revealed that there were illegal lodgers in the premises while the schools were in sessions.

The corps marshall said that one of the suspects, who claimed to be employed as a security guard at the building, made them understand that former Governor Babatunde Fashola’s administration gave Phycom Nigeria Ltd. the structure to convert to a school.

He said that the company was to provide accommodation and specialised facilities for the teaching of pupils with special needs, stressing that the project was later abandoned after Mr Fashola left office.

“He confirmed to us that he had to rent out some of the rooms to make ends meet because Phycom Nigeria Limited stopped paying him in 2018,” Mr Cole quoted one of the suspects as saying.

Business centres, artisans shops and an Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) shrine around the fence of the schools were destroyed during the operation.

Mr Cole said that the operation would affect all public schools in Lagos State, stressing that Amuwo-Odofin was the seventh public schools they were pulling down illegal structures.

He said the illegal structures posed a security risk to the students of the schools, pointing out that one particular school where such an operation was carried out had a door linked to a hotel.

The agency’s boss said those renting out government properties would be arrested, while those they rented the buildings to would be sent out.

He said one of the reasons the operation was being carried out was for the government to put the structures back to better use, rather than abandon them for criminal elements to occupy.

Some residents of Amuwo-Odofin who spoke with journalists on the sidelines of the demolition, called on Lagos state government to turn the abandoned building to a sports academy.

They noted that, though the building was primarily built for persons with disabilities, turning it into a sports academy would improve the lives of the youths in the area.

Femi Ilusanmi, a community youth leader, said he was one of the students who graduated from the Iganmu High School, Amuwo-Odofin, some 40 years ago. He stressed that many uncompleted buildings owned by the government littered many places in Lagos.

Another resident, Olusegun Sururakat, whose shop was destroyed, said they were not given enough time for them to move their things out before they pulled down their shops.

Ms Sururakat said he had nothing against pulling down illegal structures around public schools, but that, however, the illegal occupants should be given enough time to move out.

The Corps also cleared illegal traders at Mile-2/Badagry Expressway.

Sanwo-Olu says Nigerian government should expand tax base despite untold hardship

Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has tasked the Nigerian government on the need to expand the country’s tax base by exploring innovative ways.

Mr Sanwo-Olu said that although the nation was fostering a business environment that gives room for the economy to thrive, he noted the need to make the tax system transparent and accountable to Nigerians to boost voluntary compliance.

The governor, represented by his aide on taxation and revenue, Abdul-Kabir Opeyemi Ogungbo, spoke at the 26th Annual Tax Conference organized by the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria in Abuja.

“We need to explore innovative ways to expand the tax base while fostering a business environment that allows our economy to thrive,” he said. “The good news is that Nigeria is already taking positive steps in these directions.”

According to him, the recent efforts to streamline state-level taxes and the focus on integrating the growing remote workforce into the tax net by the government are commendable initiatives.

Mr Sanwo-Olu emphasised the necessity for citizens to witness tangible outcomes from their tax contributions, stressing the pivotal role taxes play in fuelling public services and infrastructural development.

The governor noted that building a strong and sustainable future through a robust tax system driving economic growth and development had become inevitable.

He, however, advised taxpayers to view tax payments not as a burden but as an investment in a better future for Nigeria.

“We must all understand the crucial role taxes play in building a better Nigeria for ourselves and for generations to come,” he said.

The theme of the ongoing programme is “Sustainable tax culture and economic road map for nation building.”

5 things your handshake says about your health

0
2 mn read

Handshakes are a common form of greeting, especially when people are being introduced to one another.

While a handshake may seem like a simple social nicety, it can also give some insights into a person’s health.

While it is commonly accepted as a way of greeting, handshakes can also convey a message about you.

Here are five things that can be revealed with just a handshake:

The strength of your handshake is often correlated with your muscle strength and fitness levels. According to research, a weak handshake could be a sign of muscle weakness, frailty, or other health conditions such as arthritis, neurological disorders, or cardiovascular issues.

On the other hand, a firm handshake could indicate the person has good muscle tone and general vitality.

Your handshake can also give a glimpse into early death. Research has shown that people who had lower hand-grip strength also had links with higher all-cause mortality. In addition, people who develop a weak hold in midlife have been reported to have a 20% higher risk of dying from heart and respiratory diseases as well as cancer.

Grip strength can also give an insight into a person’s risk of having a stroke.

The duration of a handshake can also tell you a lot about the person’s social health. An excessively prolonged handshake might indicate social awkwardness or anxiety, which could be linked to mental health concerns like social anxiety disorder.

On the other hand, a brief but confident handshake is often associated with self-assurance and good mental well-being.

<img class="image lazyloaded imgWithMetaData" title="Handshakes could be linked to confidence and mental health [Pulse]" src="data:;base64,” alt=”Handshakes could be linked to confidence and mental health [Pulse]” width=”516″ height=”247″ data-original=”https://ocdn.eu/pulscms-transforms/1/h84ktkuTURBXy80OTQ2NjNiZC1jOGMyLTQ1NTQtYjhiYS1hNWEwZjJiYjFiNDEuanBlZ5KVA8xPzQEIzQIEzPeVAs0CBMz3wsM” />

During handshakes, the temperature and moisture of your hands can reveal clues about your circulatory system and autonomic nervous function. Cold, clammy hands may suggest poor circulation, anxiety, or hormonal imbalances. Warm, dry hands typically indicate normal circulation and a relaxed state.

Chronic cold hands could be a symptom of conditions like Raynaud’s Disease or peripheral artery disease.

If you experience pain or discomfort during a handshake, it may be a sign of an underlying musculoskeletal issue such as arthritis, tendonitis, or carpal tunnel syndrome. Joint stiffness, swelling, or inflammation can make handshakes uncomfortable or even unbearable.

While a handshake may seem like a simple social nicety, it can also give some insights into a person’s health. Being aware of these subtle cues can prompt early detection and intervention for potential health issues. So, the next time you extend your hand for a greeting, remember that it’s not just a gesture – it’s a window into your health.

Burna Boy reveals the only veteran artists he respects, gives reasons

Musician Burna Boy has stated that the only veteran artists in Nigerian music he respects are Timaya, D’banj, Wande Coal, Larry Gaaga, and 2Baba.

The self-described “African Giant” claims that these are the only legends who have influenced his life and profession as a musician.

Burna Boy made this statement in response to seasoned producer ID Cabasa’s recent appeal for Nigerian singers to show reverence for icons.

During a recent Instagram live session with fans, he said: “The only OGs who have impacted my life; number one, Timaya, because he is the one who showed me that achieving stardom was possible. I’m going to respect him for the rest of my life.

“D’banj also supported me back then. He paid for ‘Wan Da Mo’ video. These are two people I don’t joke with. It’s not like n*ggas don’t have respect, no, n*ggas have just been through a lot and we only remember the people we saw in the dark times. People like Larry Gaaga. He stood by me back then. So these are people I will respect for the rest of my life.

“When you’re talking about OGs, as far as I’m concerned, those names are the only ones in addition to 2Face based on musicality and the fact that he did a feature with me when he didn’t have to back in the day. These are OGs to me. Any other person isn’t an OG to me. ID Cabasa, you can meet Olamide and you can be an OG to him [laughs]. We’ve all been through stuff differently and we all see life differently.

“I can’t forget Wande Coal, too. At a point in time, we were so close.”

Uriel Oputa, a well-known reality star, expressed her disappointment with a lady who had undergone a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) but neglected to use deodorant, resulting in an unpleasant environment when sharing the same space.

The former BBNaija contestant, who recently identified herself as old-fashioned and discussed her plans to keep her future husband hidden once engaged, once again made headlines.

Through an Instagram story post, Uriel alluded to the uncomfortable situation surrounding a lady who, despite appearing stylish with her BBL, failed to maintain proper hygiene.

She emphasized the importance for women to prioritize investing in deodorant as much as they do in enhancing their physical appearance, stressing that it is unacceptable for a woman to emit an unpleasant odor.

Despite acknowledging the lady’s beauty, the chef likened the smell emanating from her to that of sweat accumulated from two days of intense gym workouts without showering.

“Pls if you can afford BBL Pls also afford deodorant Because the smell coming from this beautiful woman is Scary… How can you focus on just the physical? Such a shame. Such a pretty girl…

“A lot of people need to detox their bodies… Can’t be looking like a Baddie Then smelling like Frank, after working out for 2 nights without showering,” she wrote.

Rivers crisis: Re-contest election – APC group tells lawmakers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Frontier has advised the members of the Rivers State Assembly whose seats were recently declared vacant to go back and contest fresh elections.

The group in a statement on Thursday said the lawmakers’ defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was a betrayal of the trust and mandate given to them.

Signed by its national president, Comrade Ajani Martins, the statement further described the defectors as political prostitutes who had no place in the APC.

According to Martins, their defection was not only morally wrong but a clear sign of their lack of principles and integrity.

Martins, therefore, said the ruling party doesn’t support such illegality and treachery, adding that those who voted for them deserved better.

“We have followed the political crisis in Rivers State and actions taken by major actors, including the assembly members.

“Our great party condemns in the strongest terms the treacherous defection of the 25 Parliamentarians.

“This act of political prostitution is a betrayal of the trust and mandate given to them by their party and the people.

“We reject and disown them and their selfish interests, which have led them to abandon the principles and values that their party stands for.

“It is clear that they lack commitment to any party’s ideals and have shown willingness to sacrifice the interests of their people for personal gain.

“We will not tolerate such treachery and will take all necessary steps to ensure that those who have betrayed the trust of the people are held accountable.

“We trust our party to continue to stand firm on our principles and values, and we will not be swayed by the selfish interests of a few individuals.

“To our loyal members and supporters, we urge you to remain steadfast and committed to our party’s cause.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to serve the interests of our people and to build a better future for our nation.

“We value loyalty, commitment, and dedication to our party’s principles and values, and we cannot guarantee that those who have abandoned their previous party affiliations share these qualities.

“We, therefore, advise the lawmakers to return home and re-contest. As it stands, they have lost their seats in the House. Our party doesn’t support illegality.”
