BBNAIJA’S DOYIN SAYS BEING A FULL-TIME HOUSEWIFE IS RISKY

Big Brother Naija star Doyin David has expressed her views on traditional housewifery, emphasizing the importance of financial independence for women. Speaking on a recent episode of her podcast, *Doyin’s Corner*, she highlighted the risks of being fully dependent on one’s husband without any personal savings.

Doyin stated, “One of the riskiest things you can do is to get married and want to be a full housewife and just completely depend on your husband without having any money saved. I don’t support that anybody should become a full housewife. I don’t. I think it’s too risky.”

She added, “I understand that taking care of the house is a lot of work, but I don’t think that should be anyone’s only job. I will never be a full-time housewife, even if I’m married to the wealthiest man alive.”

Emphasizing the importance of having one’s own source of income, she said, “I think both people need to have money of their own before getting married, both the man and the woman.”

In the same episode, Doyin also discussed relationships, asserting that a man who does not want to be “snatched” by another woman won’t be. She stressed, “I believe that a man that can be snatched did not want to stay in the first place. It doesn’t matter how good of a cook you are or anything. If a man wants to leave, it’s not because of anything another woman did to snatch him. If he’s going to leave, he’d leave for another woman anyway.”

AN AUDIENCE PREFERENCE FOR THE AMVCAs [COMMENTARY]

0
2 mn read

In the world of cinema, award shows frequently ignite passionate debates and discussions among fans and critics.

One film that has recently stirred up controversy for its arguably unmerited dominance at the just concluded AMVCA is Amazon Prime’s “Breathe of Life.” While many, including myself, agree that it is a remarkable movie, divergent opinions have surfaced regarding the distribution of awards, particularly in the supporting actor category.

A supporting actor or actress performs a role below that of the leading actor(s) but above that of a bit part. In “Breathe of Life,” Chimezie Imo, who played the role of Elijah, clearly fits the supporting actor role, unlike Ademola Adedoyin, who played a minor part in the movie.

Chimezie Imo’s nuanced portrayal added depth and emotion to the storyline. “Brilliant” doesn’t begin to describe his performance. However, the unexpected turn of events came during the award ceremony when Demola Adedoyin, who should not have been considered a nominee for the supporting actor category, clinched the prestigious award.

If someone from “Breathe of Life” had to win the award, why was it not Imo, the actual supporting actor? Why was Chimezie Imo given the Trailblazer Award instead? Was it to make room for Ademola, who won at the expense of far more worthy nominees like Itele D Icon from “Jagun Jagun,” Alex Ekubo from “Afamefuna,” and Levi Chikere from “Blood Vessel”?

It was also unexpected to see “Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti,” a movie that had not been released when the award ceremony took place, win the award for Best Writing, ahead of more deserving movies that had already been released in cinemas or on streaming platforms. If it is truly a viewers’ choice award, how does a movie that viewers have yet to see win an award?

The 10th edition of the AMVCA has left the “viewers” with too many questions, and we deserve some answers and clarity.

“Justice Binta Nyako Denies Nnamdi Kanu’s Request for Bail Restoration and Removal from DSS Custody”

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Biafra nation agitators, faced a setback as his request to have his revoked bail reinstated and to be moved from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) was dismissed by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In her ruling on Monday, Justice Nyako highlighted that Kanu had previously brought a similar request before her, which was dismissed for lack of merit. She emphasized that Kanu had breached the conditions of his bail by fleeing the country, indicating his disregard for the court’s authority.

Furthermore, the judge noted that the sureties who had stood for Kanu in his earlier bail application had applied to be discharged, as they could not locate him and were unaware of his whereabouts. This further compounded the challenges surrounding Kanu’s bail status.

Justice Nyako refuted claims by Kanu’s lead counsel regarding a Supreme Court judgment that purportedly supported the reinstatement of Kanu’s bail. Upon examining the Supreme Court judgment, the judge found no such assertion and emphasized that Kanu’s only recourse now was to appeal the decision at the Court of Appeal.

With this ruling, Nnamdi Kanu remains in DSS custody, and his legal team must now explore other avenues, including appellate options, to challenge the court’s decision.

Anthony Olubunmi George, a 61-year-old Nigerian man who has resided in the UK for the past 38 years, is now confronting the possibility of deportation following allegations of passport falsification. George, who moved to the UK in 1986 at the age of 24, has lived in the country without any criminal convictions until now.

Troubles for George reportedly began in 2005 when his former solicitors submitted a falsified entry stamp in his passport. This act, later discovered, was reported to the police and legal regulatory bodies, sparking a legal ordeal for George.

In an interview with The Guardian, George expressed his innocence, stating that he was unaware of the falsified stamp until years after it was submitted. Despite his long-standing residency in the UK and lack of criminal convictions, George now finds himself facing the daunting prospect of deportation due to the passport falsification allegations.

“Oba of Benin Accuses EFCC of Facilitating Crime, Claims Bribery in Petition Against Fraudulent Palace Personnel”

Oba Ewuare II of Benin has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of allegedly facilitating crime, particularly in relation to a specific criminal case involving former palace officials accused of fraud. The monarch made these claims during a meeting with the new Benin Zonal Director of EFCC, Effa Okim, at his palace in Benin on Monday, May 20.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Osaigbovo Ighobaro, the Oba of Benin highlighted the case involving former palace officials who were detained for alleged fraud and subsequently handed over to the EFCC in Benin for investigation and prosecution.

The accusation suggests that the EFCC, instead of prosecuting the alleged criminals, may have engaged in activities that obstructed justice, potentially by accepting bribes or engaging in other forms of corruption. This serious allegation from such a prominent figure as the Oba of Benin underscores the gravity of the situation and raises questions about the integrity and effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in combating corruption and ensuring accountability.

The Oba’s remarks serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining transparency, accountability, and integrity within government institutions, particularly those tasked with combating corruption. It remains to be seen how the EFCC will respond to these accusations and what actions will be taken to address the concerns raised by the Oba of Benin.

“Father of Trafficked Boy Rejects Tricycle Offer from Ekweremadu’s Family, Desires Communication with Son”

Mr. Nwamini Ukpo, father of David Ukpo, who was trafficked to the United Kingdom for organ harvesting, recently recounted an incident involving Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s family. During an interview with Vanguard at his family compound in Ndioffia Ishieke, Ebonyi State, Mr. Ukpo shared the encounter, which took place in the presence of community members and Reverend Igweali Linus, the head pastor of the Nigeria Reform Church (NRC), where David Ukpo served as a chorister.

Mr. Ukpo disclosed that after his son’s case gained global attention, a group claiming to represent the Ekweremadu family visited him at their family compound in Ebonyi State. They offered him a tricycle as compensation, which he promptly rejected. According to Mr. Ukpo, his sole desire is to have the chance to communicate with his son again, expressing the emotional toll the situation has taken on him.

Meanwhile, one of David Ukpo’s uncles, acting as an intermediary between the two families, emphasized that the Ekweremadu family’s sole wish is to ascertain whether David is alive and well. He clarified that their visit to the village was solely to extend an offer of compensation, which Mr. Ukpo declined, emphasizing his desire for communication with his son over material gifts.

Further investigations revealed the medical challenges faced by Mr. Nwamini Ukpo, including swollen legs and a heart condition that has prevented him from engaging in farming activities. Reverend Igweali Linus affirmed Mr. Ukpo’s health condition and reiterated his desire for communication with his son rather than receiving gifts or compensation.
