< 1 mn read

The Rivers State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed confidence that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will effectively implement the new N70,000 minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

In an exclusive interview with DAILY POST, Alex Agwanwor, the NLC State Chairman, highlighted the positive relationship between the current administration and the union, contrasting it with the previous administration’s challenges. Agwanwor emphasized that the collaboration with Governor Fubara’s government is smooth and beneficial for both parties, with no significant disagreements reported.

Governor Fubara had pledged on May Day 2024 to adhere to the minimum wage agreement set by the Federal Government. This pledge, according to Agwanwor, reflects the governor’s commitment to improving workers’ conditions and welfare in Rivers State.

Agwanwor commended Fubara for his proactive approach to addressing workers’ issues and noted that the governor’s understanding of these issues often leads to prompt resolutions, reducing the need for formal negotiations or disputes.

The new Minimum Wage Act, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on July 29, 2024, increases the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000. Agwanwor believes that if other states can meet this requirement, Rivers State will also be able to do so, given the current government’s assurances and actions.

Davido’s popular wedding hit, “Ogechi Remix,” has been removed from YouTube due to a copyright dispute. The track, which was performed live at Davido’s wedding to Chioma on June 25, 2024, quickly became a fan favorite. The remix featured contributions from BoyPee, Brown Joel, and Hyce.

The music video for “Ogechi Remix” was uploaded to YouTube on July 19, 2024, but has since been taken down due to a copyright claim. This removal has led to confusion and disappointment among fans who enjoyed the song’s celebratory vibes.

As of now, the music video is unavailable on Davido’s official channels, but the audio version remains accessible on BoyPee’s YouTube page. The situation appears to stem from the fact that the original track, “Ogechi,” was created by a different artist before the remix version was released. This has led to issues with proper crediting and copyright.

Davido has not yet publicly commented on the removal, but fans and industry observers are keeping an eye on any further developments regarding the track’s availability and resolution of the copyright issue.

Bongos Ikwue Urges Nigerian Government to Address Youth Demands and Embrace Protesters’ Actions.

Dr. Bongos Ikwue, a renowned Nigerian musician, has called on the government to address the demands of protesting youths and the broader public, emphasizing the need for responsiveness and engagement in the face of recent #EndBadGovernance protests.

In his statement, Ikwue highlighted a significant shift in Nigerian society, where modern-day citizens are increasingly holding their leaders accountable. He stressed that this trend reflects a departure from past complacency, pointing out that poor governance extends beyond politics into various sectors, including homes, communities, and religious organizations.

Ikwue urged government officials at all levels to be open and accommodating of both the protesters and their actions, framing them as essential components of a democratic system of checks and balances. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging and addressing the grievances of the youth and the general populace, noting that the state of the youth is often indicative of the nation’s future.

The musician expressed his readiness to collaborate with local, state, and federal governments to engage youths in a meaningful manner. He underscored the need for proper guidance, support, and opportunities for the younger generation to contribute positively to the country’s development.

Ikwue also noted the prevailing hardships in Nigeria, attributing some of these difficulties to the recent increase in fuel prices, which has impacted various aspects of daily life. He empathized with the struggles faced by Nigerians, including issues like hunger, insecurity, and a failing healthcare system.

In his advice to the youth, Ikwue encouraged them to seek constructive solutions to societal challenges and avoid violence or illegal means of acquiring wealth. He urged them to utilize available resources and opportunities effectively.

To address the country’s difficulties, Ikwue suggested several measures, including:
Promoting the use of CNG-powered and electric vehicles, along with establishing filling stations for these alternatives.
Implementing affordable mass transit options, including tricycles.
Providing support to charity shops offering food at reduced prices.
Upgrading national security infrastructure, particularly in poorly governed areas.
Creating meaningful programs to empower young people.
Ensuring purposeful leadership training.
Intensifying efforts to combat corruption within both government and society.

“CAN Blames Nigeria’s Challenges on ‘Distorted Sense of Values'”

Churches in Nigeria under the umbrella of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, have shared their opinion on why the country has not moved forward since Independence in 1960.

Popular churches such as the Anglican, Catholic, Methodist, Deeper Life, Redeemed Christian Church of God, among many others came together at Transcorp Hilton Hotel in preparation for Christ for Nations crusade to be held in Abuja to pray and seek salvation of Nigeria.

Members of the FCT CAN leadership at the event include Dr John Daku, Executive Director, Africa, Christ for All Nations, Archbishop John Daniel, the Deputy President, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, and Rev. Dr. Williams Okoye, All Christian Fellowship.

“At Independence of the nation Nigeria, many developed nations believed that within a few years, Nigeria would join the league of developed nations,” Rev. Dr Okoye said while fielding questions from journalists.

“But sixty-plus years later, Nigeria still struggles. The reason is because of our distorted sense of value. Any nations that are developed, may have developed based on their values.

“If you look at a nation like Singapore, God gave them a leader and because of the core values Lee Juan Yew advocated, Singapore was transformed from a third world country to a first world country within the space of twenty years.

“So, one of the things we stand to benefit through this crusade is that we’re going to reorientate our people to let them know that things of internal value must have preeminence in our lives.

“Today we worship money in Nigeria. I was just watching a report on social media recently where a young boy was told that he would become a millionaire if he buried his mother alive and he took the mother and buried her alive.

“It’s because of our distorted sense of value. But if the values and mindset of our people are transformed, they’ll begin to see that we’re here to serve God and humanity.

“Nigeria will be transformed and there’ll be change. Nigeria will move forward. That’s what we stand to benefit from.”

natural 3 ways to permanently remove facial hair

0
2 mn read

Here are three natural remedies for gentle, cost-effective, and potentially permanent facial hair removal:

1. Turmeric and Milk Paste

Turmeric is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it a popular choice in skincare. When combined with milk, this mixture can weaken hair follicles and reduce hair growth over time.

How to Use:

  • Mix two tablespoons of turmeric powder with enough milk to create a thick paste.
  • Apply the paste evenly to areas with unwanted facial hair.
  • Let it dry completely, usually around 20 minutes.
  • Gently rub off the dried paste in circular motions.
  • Rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Effectiveness: Regular application can gradually reduce facial hair growth and potentially lead to permanent hair loss in treated areas.

2. Sugar and Lemon Juice

This method mimics waxing but is gentler on the skin. Sugar acts like a natural wax, sticking to hair and pulling it out from the roots, while lemon juice naturally bleaches the hair, making it less noticeable.

How to Use:

  • Mix two tablespoons of sugar with two teaspoons of lemon juice and eight to ten teaspoons of water.
  • Heat the mixture until it starts to bubble, then let it cool slightly.
  • Apply the mixture to unwanted hair in the direction of hair growth.
  • Leave it on for about 20 minutes, then gently scrub it off using a cloth or your fingers.
  • Rinse with cool water.

Effectiveness: Repeating this method once or twice a week can significantly reduce hair growth over time.

3. Papaya and Turmeric Paste

Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, which helps break down hair follicles and inhibits hair growth. Combined with turmeric, it forms a potent paste that can lead to permanent hair removal.

How to Use:

  • Mash a few slices of raw papaya into a smooth paste.
  • Add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder to the papaya paste and mix well.
  • Apply the paste to areas with unwanted facial hair.
  • Massage the paste gently into the skin for about 15 minutes.
  • Leave it on for another 15-20 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water.

Effectiveness: Suitable for all skin types, this method can be used once or twice a week. With consistent use, you may notice reduced hair growth and eventual permanent removal.

Conclusion

These natural remedies are safe, gentle, and nourishing to the skin. With regular and consistent use, they can effectively target and reduce unwanted facial hair, potentially leading to permanent hair removal without the need for costly treatments or harsh chemicals.

Nigerians only participate in sports that don’t need investment – Seun Kuti

Nigerian singer Seun Kuti has openly criticized the Nigerian government’s lack of investment in sports, especially in the wake of the country’s underwhelming performance in the 2024 Olympics. In a video posted on his Instagram, Kuti highlighted that Nigeria mainly participated in sports that required minimal financial investment, such as track and field events, while neglecting sports that need more resources and infrastructure.

Kuti pointed out that Nigerian athletes are often limited to sports like running, which doesn’t require much equipment, unlike sports such as tennis or basketball that need more substantial facilities and gear. He argued that this lack of investment prevents the country from competing in a broader range of sports on the global stage.

He called on the government to invest in sports leagues and offer substantial prizes to encourage athletes, suggesting that a prize of $25 million could significantly boost participation and performance. Kuti stressed that many Nigerians have an interest in various sports, and with proper support, the country could produce world-class athletes.

Kuti also lamented the lack of opportunities for Nigerian talent, which he believes is why many athletes choose to represent other countries. He used the example of Simone Biles to illustrate the potential being wasted in Nigeria due to the lack of investment in sports like gymnastics. Kuti emphasized that if more resources were allocated to developing sports infrastructure and training, Nigeria could produce many more global sports stars.
