In a tragic accident, over 35 Muslims en route to Samunaka, Kaduna State, to celebrate Maulud, died when their J5 bus collided head-on with an articulated vehicle near Samunaka in Lere Local Government Area.
Authorities have yet to respond to the incident. Malam Abdullahi, an organizer of the Maulud celebration, reported that the accident disrupted their plans and confirmed that 35 other victims were transported to a medical facility in Plateau State for treatment. He also mentioned that another vehicle in the convoy was involved in a collision with a motorbike, resulting in additional casualties and injuries. Abdullahi stated that approximately 70 people, including women and children, were involved.
In a separate incident, the Zamfara State Government has confirmed the death of 40 people following a boat capsizing in the Bakin Kasuwa River, Uban Dawaki community, Gummi Local Government Area. Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Sulaiman Idris, described the incident as a significant disaster. The governor has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to conduct rescue operations, recover bodies, and provide immediate relief materials to affected families. Governor Lawal expressed condolences and committed to measures to prevent future tragedies.
These incidents follow a recent flood disaster in the same council area, which devastated over 2000 houses and farmlands.
