The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported that 125,928 out of the 184,438 newly printed Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) have been collected in Edo State in preparation for the upcoming governorship election on September 21, 2024. This represents a 68% collection rate, the highest recorded for an off-cycle governorship election since INEC introduced Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in 2015.

The PVC collection took place across all 192 wards in Edo State from August 22 to August 26. INEC carefully coordinated this process, organizing the PVCs by Polling Units, Wards, and Local Government Areas (LGAs). Additionally, a collection register, detailing the voters whose cards were ready for pickup, was made available on the INEC website.

Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, confirmed that a detailed breakdown of PVC collections by LGA has been uploaded to INEC’s website and social media platforms. The collection process will resume in all INEC offices across the 18 LGAs in Edo State from Wednesday, August 28, and will continue until September 8.

Olumekun urged voters who have not yet collected their PVCs to do so at INEC LGA offices, stressing that no PVCs should be collected by proxy.
