Eighteen registered political parties have submitted their nominations to contest in the upcoming local government election in Osun State. This announcement was made by Hashim Abioye, Chairman of the Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), during a 3-day retreat at Regina Hotel and Suites, Osogbo on Thursday.
Election Details
For the first time in OSIEC’s history, all 18 political parties in Osun State are participating in the election, scheduled for February next year. Abioye confirmed that the commission has received nominations from all parties and is currently in the process of verifying these credentials.
“We are glad to inform you that for the first time in the history of this commission, all 18 registered political parties in Osun State are participating and have submitted their nominations,” Abioye stated.
Current Status and Next Steps
The commission is progressing through the verification stage and expects to publish the names of the confirmed candidates shortly. Abioye emphasized that OSIEC is meticulously following the outlined timetable and steps for the election, ensuring thorough preparation.
“We are not rushing the process. We issued the notice of elections for February 2024 even before the Supreme Court judgment was concluded. We are currently in the verification phase and will soon release the names of confirmed candidates,” he added.
