Oba Gabriel Aromolaran, the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, has issued a stern warning to the contractor of the ₦16.5 billion road project in Ilesa, cautioning against actions that could incite religious conflict during the demolition phase.
The project, which involves constructing a 6.2-kilometer dual carriageway from Ereja Square to Brewery, was awarded by Governor Ademola Adeleke on April 30. Oba Aromolaran voiced concerns at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ilesa, noting complaints from local religious groups about perceived biases in the demolition process.
The traditional ruler, represented by High Chief Ibitoye Akanbi, stressed the importance of demolishing all approved structures without discrimination to prevent religious discord. He urged the contractor to adhere strictly to the approved plans and timelines to ensure the project’s success and maintain peace in the community.
Oba Aromolaran also expressed frustration over the slow progress of the project, as only five months remain out of the nine-month completion schedule. He called for an accelerated pace to meet the deadline and appealed to residents to avoid actions that could disrupt order.
High Chief Adesoji Adeniji, the Alagbeda of Agbeda of Ijesa, emphasized that the invitation to the contractor was intended to facilitate a productive discussion on the project’s progress and not to intimidate. He reassured that Oba Aromolaran supports the successful completion of the road project and has set up a committee to liaise with the contractor for smooth execution.
