In a significant development less than two months before the Ondo State governorship election, Mrs. Susan Gbemisola Alabi has resigned from both the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and her position as the party’s deputy governorship candidate. Reports indicate that her resignation stems from irreconcilable differences with the party’s governorship candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye.
In her resignation letter, dated October 2, 2024, and addressed to the SDP National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, Alabi confirmed her departure from the party. She also notified Akingboye about her resignation from the deputy governorship position.
Alabi wrote, “I am writing to formally resign from my membership in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) effective immediately. This decision was not made lightly as I have valued my time with the party. However, after careful consideration, I believe it is in my best interest to pursue new opportunities and directions.”
She expressed gratitude for the support she received during her time with the SDP and wished the party continued success.
When reached for comment, Femi Ikoyi, the Director General of the Otunba Bamidele Akingboye Campaign Organisation, stated that Akingboye was not aware of Alabi’s resignation. Ikoyi promised to confirm the situation and provide further updates.
