“Ondo State Government Vows to Invest in Sunshine Stars’ Youth Team Development

The Ondo State Government has declared its intention to invest in the youth team of the Nigeria Premier Football League side, Sunshine Stars.

The decision comes in the wake of the Sunshine Stars U-17 team’s inability to progress to the playoff stage of the inaugural NPFL Youth League.

During an impromptu visit to the team’s training ground, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, revealed the government’s commitment to supporting the youth team.

Yusuf-Ogunleye assured the team that they would not be overlooked by the government, emphasizing the importance of nurturing local talent.

He stated, ‘Before we seek players externally for Sunshine Stars, we aim to promote some of you to the team, supplementing with a few signings from outside. This approach aligns with our goal to revive the glory days of OSFODEC, where talents like Abe Sunday, Dayo Ojo, Geoffrey Oboabona, and many others were discovered.’

The commissioner’s visit serves as a demonstration of solidarity and a pledge of continued support from the state government towards grassroots football development.”
