Nigerian international superstar Omah Lay has revealed a dramatic turn in his music career—he had to re-record his upcoming album after an artist stole his sound. In a candid interview on the Zach Sang Show, Omah Lay disclosed that he shared a new musical direction with a fellow artist, only to find that the artist released an album featuring the same sound five months later.
Omah Lay explained, “I shared an idea with a certain artist, and the artist went out to put out an album with the sound. I had this idea to do something with the sound and he came to me and asked me. This is an artist that I love for sure, so I decided to say ‘Okay, let’s collaborate. This is where I am heading with Afrobeats.’ And 5 months later, he put out an album with all the same sound I shared with him.”
This breach of trust led Omah Lay to re-record his album, which he promises will be a landmark in Afrobeats history. “I had to go back and remake my album which will actually be the greatest album of all time in Afrobeats history,” he declared.
Fans are eagerly awaiting this highly anticipated follow-up to his debut project Boy Alone. To keep the momentum going, Omah Lay has also released a new single titled “Moving,” marking his first release of 2024 after collaborations with Kaestyle and Spinall.
