Olamide’s surprise EP ‘Ikigai’ has made waves in the music industry, setting a new record for the biggest opening week streams on Spotify Nigeria in 2024. Released on June 27, 2024, ‘Ikigai’ garnered an impressive 7.92 million streams in its first week, according to TurnTable Charts. This achievement surpasses Shallipopi’s ‘Shakespopi,’ which received 5.7 million streams in its opening week.

The EP’s success reaffirms Olamide’s stature as one of Nigeria’s leading artists, known for his consistent influence in African rap. ‘Ikigai’ features collaborations with YBNL stars Fireboy and Asake on track 3, ‘Uptown Disco,’ and reunites Olamide with former YBNL associates Pheelz, Young Jonn, and Lil Kesh on track 7, titled ‘Synchro System.’

This release marks Olamide’s 10th solo project and 15th overall, solidifying his extensive discography and ongoing impact in Nigerian mainstream music since 1999. ‘Ikigai’ also becomes Olamide’s highest opening week stream on Spotify Nigeria, surpassing the 5.8 million streams achieved by his 2023 album ‘Unruly.’

While ‘Ikigai’ ranks fourth in the list of biggest streaming weeks for projects on Spotify Nigeria, behind Davido’s ‘Timeless’ (14.4M), Burna Boy’s ‘I Told Them’ (9.4M), and Asake’s ‘Work Of Art’ (8.3M), its performance underscores Olamide’s continued dominance and appeal in the music industry.
