The Ogun State Government, through the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, has suspended a teacher accused of physically punishing Master Monday Arijo, an SS2 student at Obada Grammar School in Obada, Idi-emi, leading to his tragic death.

The incident occurred on Friday, prompting the teacher’s immediate arrest. The school’s Principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, received an official query regarding her allowance of corporal punishment, which is against the state’s rules and regulations. Mrs. Onaolapo has been given 24 hours to justify her actions and explain why disciplinary measures should not be enacted against her for contravening official guidelines.

In a show of compassion, the Ministry sent a condolence letter to the bereaved family, expressing sorrow over the loss of their son. The letter, signed by the Permanent Secretary, remembered the late student as an outstanding pupil cherished by his peers, school, and the entire state. It conveyed prayers for the family’s strength to bear the profound loss and for the peaceful repose of the departed soul.
