OFALA FESTIVAL KICKS OFF IN ONITSHA, ANAMBRA STATE

The yearly Ofala Festival, sponsored by leading telecommunications company Globacom, begins in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Friday, October 18. The event will take place at the Ime Obi, the palace of Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, the traditional ruler of the kingdom.

According to a statement released by Globacom on Wednesday, the festival will commence with the Iru Ofala on Friday and culminate on Saturday, October 19, with the Azu Ofala.

Additionally, on Wednesday, October 23, Globacom will host a Royal Banquet in honor of Igwe Achebe at the Ime Obi.

The Ofala Festival is the largest traditional festival in the southeastern region of Nigeria. It serves as a celebration for the Igwe and his subjects marking his yearly return from seclusion. The festival is a time for the monarch to negotiate the kingdom’s fortunes and fulfill certain cultural obligations.
