Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has issued a strong warning regarding Nigeria’s economic prospects, emphasizing that significant structural changes are essential for the country’s progress.
In a recent interview, Obaseki criticized the federal government’s economic strategies, describing them as “stuck in the past” and lacking the necessary courage to implement vital reforms.
He stated, “The problem of Nigeria today is structural. The structure we have is expired. It’s outdated. We need a new structure to run the economy of the state.”
Obaseki argued that the current framework is ineffective in addressing deep-rooted economic challenges. He noted that the issue is not a lack of intelligence among government officials, but rather a hesitance to make bold decisions necessary for meaningful change.
In response to questions about the government’s reliance on printing money to manage financial shortfalls, he reiterated his belief that outdated solutions will not solve contemporary issues. “If we don’t make this structural shift, we’re just wasting time. If it doesn’t happen, we’re not going to move forward,” he concluded, calling for urgent reforms to secure Nigeria’s future.
