The Chief Medical Director of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ile-Ife, Professor John Okeniyi, has announced the removal of beds from offices to curb sexual harassment of female staff. Speaking on his one-year administration, Okeniyi noted that beds used during night shifts may encourage inappropriate behavior, prompting the decision to eliminate them.
He emphasized that the hospital has an anti-sexual harassment law, and ignorance will not be accepted as a defense. Violators will be publicly shamed and punished, as the institution takes a firm stance against such misconduct. Okeniyi also clarified that night shifts are for work, not rest, further supporting the decision to remove the beds.
These measures aim to create a more professional and safe environment within the hospital.
