The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intensified its efforts against vandalism with the graduation of 135 personnel from its 2024 Batch A Basic Arms Training.

At the Passing Out Parade held at the command headquarters on Tuesday, Mr. Adamu Gwary, the Director of the Department of Security Services in the FCT Administration and representative of the FCT minister, commended the Command’s ongoing efforts to safeguard critical infrastructure in the nation’s capital.

“With this type of training, the threats to critical infrastructure will be a thing of the past. We trust that these personnel will strengthen the security of the FCT,” Gwary stated.

Dr. Olusola Odumosu, the Commandant of the NSCDC FCT Command, highlighted that this marks the first time the arms training program has been conducted entirely in-house. He expressed gratitude to the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for approving and supporting the initiative, emphasizing that retraining personnel is essential to address emerging security challenges.

“For us at the FCT Command, this is historic,” Odumosu remarked. “All previous arms training programs for our personnel were conducted at various training schools or by sister agencies. Today, we present officers who have been retrained in weapon handling by the Command’s Training Department.”

Odumosu further elaborated on the importance of this training: “In line with the core mandates of the NSCDC, which include protecting critical national assets and infrastructure and safeguarding lives and property, it becomes imperative to train our personnel to meet emerging security challenges.”

The rigorous training program equipped the 135 personnel with the skills necessary for effective weapon handling, preparing them to combat vandalism and other criminal activities that threaten peace and development in the Federal Capital Territory and the nation at large.
