The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has announced the deployment of 6,433 officers and men for the Edo State Governorship Election.
Dr. Audi emphasized the importance of remaining apolitical, acting professionally, and maintaining discipline during the election. He underscored the NSCDC’s crucial role in safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure.
According to CSC Afolabi Babawale, the National Public Relations Officer of the Corps, the NSCDC will assign over 300 operatives from each of the Ondo, Delta, Kogi, Osun, Imo, and Enugu Commands. The Edo State Command will have approximately 3,626 officers on duty, while Rivers and Bayelsa State Commands will contribute 400 and 350 personnel, respectively. Additionally, 607 Special Forces from the National Headquarters, including the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Special Female Squad, Anti-Vandal Squad, and the Chemical Biological Radiological and Explosive Unit, will be deployed. The Kennel (K9) Unit will also be involved.
Dr. Audi highlighted that the deployment would cover all critical areas, including flashpoints. Special forces and the Anti-Vandal Squad will focus on protecting government facilities and infrastructure, particularly in volatile areas. Undercover officers will conduct round-the-clock surveillance and provide real-time intelligence from all 18 local governments in Edo State.
He urged politicians to avoid actions that could incite violence and warned against using children or engaging in electoral malpractices.
