NSCDC ARRESTS 12 SUSPECTS IN ONDO STATE FOR ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ondo State Command has apprehended 12 suspects involved in various criminal activities, including illegal oil bunkering, illegal mining, vandalization, and theft.

Arrests and Recoveries

NSCDC State Commandant, Oluyemi Ibiloye, announced the arrests during a briefing in Akure on Thursday. The suspects were detained as part of a collaborative effort with the Nigerian Army. The breakdown of the arrests is as follows:

  • Oil Theft (Bunkering): Three suspects
  • Illegal Mining: Five suspects
  • Theft: Three suspects
  • Vandalization: One suspect, involved in the vandalization of a national asset (transformer)

Ibiloye highlighted significant recoveries made during the operations:

  • Oil Theft: A Toyota Sienna vehicle marked AKR 876 NP was seized with 1,200 liters of illegally refined AGO.
  • Illegal Mining: Five suspects were arrested at the Ogunlepa mining site in Odigbo Local Government, with three lyster engines, grinding equipment, and metal plates recovered.
  • Theft and Vandalization: A 20-year-old man was arrested for buying and receiving stolen goods, and another 35-year-old man was caught with three sacks of 33KVA aluminum cable concealed in a commercial vehicle heading to Lagos State.

Further Actions

Ibiloye emphasized the commitment of the NSCDC to eliminate criminal activities and protect national resources. Since his appointment in January 2024, the command has convicted 10 criminals and plans to charge the new suspects to court following the completion of investigations.

He urged the public to provide timely and useful information to security agencies to help in the fight against crime.
