The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has secured the top position in Nigeria’s Transparency Index for 2024. The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) followed closely, ranking second and third, respectively. Notably, DBN had previously topped the ranking in 2023.
The Nigeria Transparency and Integrity Index 2024, released yesterday by the Bureau for Public Sector Reform and the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity, evaluated 514 institutions across all three tiers of government.
The report highlighted the following rankings:
- Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies – 4th
- Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation – 5th
- Bank of Industry – 6th
- Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission – 7th
- Tertiary Education Trust Fund – 8th
- Central Bank of Nigeria – 9th
- Nigeria Export-Import Bank – 10th
Other notable rankings include:
- NNPC Limited – 18th
- Nigerian Communications Commission – 22nd
- Nigerian Army – 309th
- Nigerian Police – 337th
- Federal Ministry of Power – 445th
At the state level, Kaduna emerged as the top-ranked state, with Kano and Kogi following in second and third places, respectively. In contrast, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) received the lowest rating, followed by Plateau and Taraba States.
At the local government level, Abi, Akamkpa, and Akpabuyo, all located in Cross River State, were recognized as the top three, while Vandeikya, Ushongo, and Tarka in Benue State ranked the lowest.
