Salihu Lukman, the former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized the current state of political affairs in Nigeria, specifically targeting the role of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu. Lukman argued that Ribadu has diminished the prestige of his office, reducing it to the level of a protocol office for President Bola Tinubu.
In an open letter titled “Explosive North: Open Letter to Northern Politicians,” Lukman addressed northern Nigerian political leaders, expressing concern over the region’s development and security situation. He attributed the underdevelopment and difficulties in the north to the eight-year administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, rather than to President Tinubu.
Lukman warned that the widespread hunger in the region could lead to social unrest, including incidents of looting. He also criticized northern politicians within Tinubu’s administration, accusing them of being more concerned with self-preservation and political scheming for the 2027 elections than with addressing the region’s issues.
Additionally, Lukman recently left the APC, citing a lack of internal democracy and President Tinubu’s refusal to implement necessary reforms. He stated that his membership in the party had become meaningless and that there was no point in continuing under the current circumstances.
