Senate President Godswill Akpabio has firmly denied allegations that President Bola Tinubu has requested funds from the National Assembly to purchase a new presidential jet. The denial came after a closed-door meeting of senators, which lasted over an hour.
Reports had circulated suggesting that President Tinubu sought approval for the acquisition of a new jet, prompting concerns and discussions among lawmakers and the public. However, Akpabio clarified that no such request or correspondence had been submitted to the Senate for approval.
In his statement, Akpabio emphasized the Senate’s commitment to ensuring that all approvals and expenditures are in the best interest of the Nigerian people. He assured that the Senate is focused on approving matters that directly benefit the populace.
“There is nothing before us,” Akpabio stated, addressing the rumors. “We care about the President and we care about Nigerians. We will approve things that will benefit the people.”
He also acknowledged that while there have been issues with the Presidential Fleet, these have not involved any formal request for funds to purchase a new jet.
