The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has dismissed rumors about a planned nationwide protest over the recent fuel price increase, urging security agencies to address the misinformation’s sources.
Babatunde Akinteye, President of the Senate, NANS Headquarters, clarified in a statement on Wednesday in Ibadan that NANS has neither announced nor endorsed any such protest. He condemned the baseless reports circulating on various platforms, emphasizing that they do not represent the organization’s position.
Akinteye asserted that NANS is committed to peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement with stakeholders. He stressed the importance of maintaining national peace and stability, especially during these challenging times, and stated that NANS will not support actions leading to civil unrest.
He called on the public, media, and stakeholders to disregard the false reports and urged security agencies to investigate and hold accountable those spreading the misinformation. Akinteye emphasized that such actions are a threat to national security and a disservice to students seeking genuine change through lawful means.
NANS remains dedicated to advocating for students’ rights and welfare through peaceful and legal channels, and Akinteye thanked the public for their support, encouraging vigilance against attempts to mislead and create unnecessary tension.
