Sam Onuigbo, a former federal legislator, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his remarkable contributions to the South-East region, asserting that no previous Nigerian president has achieved as much in the area. Onuigbo’s comments, made during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia, centered around Tinubu’s recent signing of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law.
Onuigbo described the SEDC as a transformative initiative for the South-East, noting its potential to address long-standing issues stemming from the Civil War and to bolster regional development through education and infrastructure. He highlighted that the region had been anticipating such a commission for over 54 years, emphasizing the historical significance of this development.
While acknowledging the contributions of previous leaders, Onuigbo argued that Tinubu’s accomplishments surpass those of his predecessors in addressing the needs of the South-East. He praised Tinubu’s commitment to nation-building, citing the president’s strategic appointments, including a Service Chief and support for a Deputy Speaker, among other notable positions.
Onuigbo also underscored Tinubu’s broader impact since taking office on May 29, 2023, and encouraged the public to recognize and support his efforts. He reflected on the historical context, pointing out that despite having several prominent Senate and House positions from the South-East during past administrations, the region had not secured a dedicated commission to tackle post-war challenges until now.
“We should celebrate and encourage Tinubu for his exceptional achievements in the South-East,” Onuigbo concluded.
